Amnesiac 2.0, it most definitely was motivated by that thread.
Well, my opinion? I was very much against things like that before, and I thought anything past 5 years age difference above or below was wrong or nonsensical.
However, when I try to make sense of it, it seems to me 6 years age difference isn't such a bad idea. I mean, so many men were at least 5 years older than their wives, amongst our parents and we seem not to have a problem with it. So why it should be any different for a 25, 24, 23, 22, etc. years old seems rather contradictory and hypocritical to me.
Now, I tend to lean on legalism, though. Just to be in harmony with the law, wait until the chic is 18 to date her at all. Again, I know what the law forbids is having sex with a minor, but that's not all or what I have in mind. I mean dating a minor at all. By age 18 he or she would be headed to college and is about to have a new life experience.
Health-wise, I do not think it is a great idea for a 17 yrs old and 23 yrs old to date . . . I mean for long-term reasons. But for short-term, it is fine. For long term I don't think it would work or be healthy 'cuz she or he is most likely to desire a break from the relationship and feel deprived at some point in time.
I should add that when women do what men do (i.e., date the opposite sex of younger age), eyebrows are raised. It's still somewhat a taboo. From all appearances though, the taboo is starting to dissipate.
Of course, this is my perception.
