Is it even possible to avoid a complete train wreck in the November election?

I don't recall Greenman taking that line. Others obviously have in the past, but I don't think he's among them. I don't think he or many conservatives understand the full horror of Trump's twisted derangement. They just can't see it. The insane bastard is baiting his most loyal followers into spreading the contagion by rallying, knowing they won't show any sense at all about masks or social distancing. The callous depravity of that means he's capable of anything, and not in a good way at all.

What is worse is that it’s all about his needs. He needs the admiration. His ego needs it. He will sacrifice millions of people, either at rallies with the virus, while they fight for his re-election regardless of what the “voters” say. He wants, no needs, the admiration of his followers. It’s what makes his blood run through his veins.

I am becoming increasing concerned about the write in ballot, but just the opposite of what Trump is saying. My concern is that the ballots will not be sent out, returned, and counted on time. I live in Minnesota, which is one of the better run states. My wife and I both requested mail in ballots. They were supposed to have been sent out Sep 18, and they still have not arrived. I can only imagine what the delay will be like in the red, Trump leaning states. Early in person voting has already started, and I am seriously considering doing this and not waiting for the mail in ballot.
Everyone I know that requested mail in on Oklahoma has gotten theirs, not that our vote matter for much except the 5th district. I would early vote, but we only have 3 days of early voting and in 2016 it took me 2.5 hours.

Pooh-pooh it all you want, but I think it's perfectly obvious that Trump is angling to seize power if he can create the proper opportunity. Unless you have some other way to describe why he's trying to discredit the processes of honest Democracy. How does it serve him otherwise? it doesn't.
If he loses in spite of trying to block legitimate voters, he has two very scary options. One is to get the legislatures in the republican swing states to appoint the electors directly, because he claims the vote was invalid. The other is to delay and appeal and ultimately get the decision to be made in the courts, which have been stacked at all federal levels with Trumps stooges. If it goes to the supreme court, by the time of the election it will be 6-3 conservatives.

It’s ALL ABOUT POWER and achieving great power. AND NATURALLY... once that power is achieved THEY WILL USE IT. People, some people, actually believe the acquiring of great power is the end of it. They refuse to believe those having achieved great power would actually use it.

Oh God an Atlantic article.....give me a fuckin break OP. This might as well be an opinion piece. STOP feeding into the fear that they have been peddling for the past couple of years.

LOL....oh God...the media has got you guys so whipped up into a frenzy. I haven't seen this kind of hysteria since the SC appointed W.

Oh man that's going way back though way before Trump managed to lay waste and ruin the entire country in just a brisk three years. It makes you wonder just how strong was this great country of ours if a single man could lay waste too all our great institutions in such a short time......

We are entering some really dark days for America, I am afraid. Hope I am wrong, but I am not optimistic. Most of our institutions, SCOTUS, Senate, DOJ, CDC, FDA, even the Post Office, have been thoroughly corrupted or damaged. Given that, you can't have high expectations for the future.

It wasn't a single man, he was enabled by almost the entire Republican party along the way, including the courts, which are packed with his loyalists. History is full of "single man" laying waste to a great country's institutions in a very short time. Don't assume it can't happen in America.

You do realize that out of the six government agencies you mentioned five of them are appointed positions. The only one that is not is the Senate which is elected. This means that after Trump is gone those appointed officials can be replaced with maybe the exception of the SC which while appointed they do have a life long appointment.

Wait just a goddamn second are you telling me you've bought into the fear of the dictatorship of Trump? I think you have...you fool.

He's sure laying the seeds for it by trying to steal the election via suppression of mail-in ballots and then claiming he can only lose by fraud.

after the Watergate scandal a group of senators marched into the oval office and told Nixon to fuck off. Nixon understood that it was the right thing to do and fucked off.

Despite being a lunatic and not terribly fond of the law, Nixon was still felt SHAME that he got caught.

Not only does donald j fuckface not feel shame, there are no senators forcing him out (a few ones are voicing their intent but doing nothing), and he has a solid 40% of the country behind him.

HE HAS A 43% APPROVAL RATING TODAY: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/trump-approval/

No, you cannot save this situation.

Until the democrats start fighting dirty, nothing is going to change, and when they will, the republicans will have had a 70 year head start. If any change will come, it will be when your children are old.

This could truly be the beginning of the end for America. Think about it. How can a country survive when it has 2 parties who hate each other? It's not going to get better. Even if Trump is defeated and leaves office.

Sure it is. Dominate the elections, take majority of the Senate, bargain a super majority with some RINO's and a President willing to do what needs to be done. You could have "The Radical Right America" deprogrammed well within a decade.

I think you're wrong about both parties hating each other. I think that's more of a one way street

If Trump in effect wins by stealing the election, there is going to be unrest and a massive increase in political violence. Trump will use that situation to justify extreme and emergency measures.

One way or another, I don't think he'll ever leave if he remains, especially if he remains after stealing the election. If POTUSES can remain after losing elections, that is the end.

Don't forget that most of Trump's supporters fully support a fascist takeover by Trump. In their minds, this is life or death for what they think of as "western civilization."

Are you sure it's "most"? Surely if that's the case the country is doomed? Depending what you mean by 'supporters' I suppose. I'm sure he has a hard-core of a small number of extremist white-supremacists, who are capable of violence, at least against vulnerable groups. But if a majority of those who express support for Trump in opinion polls fully support a fascist takeover, you might as well just flee to Canada now.

During his illegitimate second term they will destroy any barriers to him running again plus will have destroyed any ability to hold true Democratic elections by the time any such sham elections take place.
I view your prognostication as a dystopoian nightmare and don't expect that to happen. I sure hope it doesn't. I would literally and honestly find the entire scenario depressing, disgusting, disconcerting, and I'd be investing some energy into investigating a permanent move out of the USA. Where? I don't know.

If that is true, then a big proportion of Americans are quite off their rockers.

The Trumpists on this forum certainly treat Trump like a dictator. They hate any media that doesn't flatter Trump 24/7; any politician who disagrees with him is evil, even if they were part of his cabinet; they see the obvious abuses and illegal activity and shrug. There isn't even a shred of the respect for disagreement that existed in the past.
TBH, I have just about all of the Trumpists on this forum on Ignore. I see the flack they get and figure why bother reading their absurd views. How people can admire Trump and not condemn a lot of what he does is beyond me. I figure those people are living in a fantasy world, they have blinders on. Here's the song, and I have the lyrics pasted below, they're on the mark:

Why can't you see the big picture?
Why can't you see?
Why can't you see the big picture?
Why can't you see?

Your view of life
Is like looking backwards through a telescope
Talking to you is useless
There's no talking to you because the blinders are already on

Why?
Oh, why?
Oh, why?
Oh, why?

Why can't you see the big picture?
Why can't you see?
Why can't you see the big picture?
Why can't you see?

I don't understand how you can be so fucking radical, and then again be so narrow minded
You hate everybody, just like everybody hates you
Hey man, I can't see why you can't see the fuckin' big picture

Why?
Oh, why?
Oh, why?
Oh, why?

Why can't you see the big picture?

Why can't you see the big picture?
Why can't you see?

It's more like let's be prepared. It didn't take long for Germany to fall apart. The Republicans have already said Trump is above the law, he can leverage US foreign policy to advance his election prospects. Trump is in decline, he is more and more becoming the clown show for his rube base of ignorance and hate. Watch out for Barr more. He is more dangerous long term.

He's already declaring major cities anarchist jurisdictions and trying to deplete them if federal funding. He is trying to charge protesters with sedition.

I think (hope) Barr will become a clown footnote to all this by January (when power is transferred to the Democrats).

Well, you read the Atlantic article and it quickly becomes clear that the big problem here (a big problem) is that we don't have the statutory protection we need. We have taken peaceful transition of power too much for granted and didn't ensure it. We should have envisioned this coming trainwreck and prevented it with appropriate legislation. Instead, we're shown to be unprepared for a constitutional crisis. I suppose this could have been dealt with during the Obama administrations. Obama did a lot of good things but not enough, not nearly enough.

Given the burgeoning global warming crisis and the wholly tragic full denial of it by one major party, I knew the unraveling of the USA was a very real possibility. I didn't expect it to be happening this fast. Maybe it's better to have our reckoning now than later when the environmental challenges will have deepened and widened and the challenge reached clearly insurmountable proportions. If Democrats are blocked from power by virtue of guile and chicanery, I think you can stick a fork in us right now... we're done.

It may seem counter intuitive, but one of the first things that Democrats should focus on if they come to full power in 2021 (House/Senate/Executive) is passing firm legislation protecting our democracy going forward. Despotism has to be despised here. That was the finest thing about America. Right now, we are severely in danger of losing the one thing that made us exceptional, our embrace of democracy.

Ignorance of opposing opinions is basically the bread and butter starting position for being a narcassist like Trump.

Enjoy your divisive retoric fully taking good of you.
