Hi, does anybody know if this memory is good for notepad or not. I am kinda hesitant about the quality cause I've heard that some people recommend like Micron or Infenion chip when looking for a memory. How good is a generic memory? Thanks

Well, you can get a 256MB SODIMM from Crucial for $102US, so keep that in mind if you bid. Don't expect to win the auction for much less than $80, and for that, I'd go with Crucial anyway.

Craig

Generic memory will typically work, otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell it. How good? Depends. I've had a bad stick of generic SDRAM, but the store replaced it. I've also had many good sticks of generic.

Craig: is the Crucial memory better than the generic one? Even though you said sometimes generic one is also good but what is the comparison to Crucial one. Thanks

I comes down to luck of the draw, but you probably wouldn't notice the difference between the two in terms of stability. The accepted standard for memory around here is Crucial. If you get a great deal through auction on a generic module and it works great, more power to you. Personally, I think you'll lose the auction with any bet less than $80 (maybe more). At that price, I'd rather have the Crucial module, thank you. Less than that, and I might take my chances, depending on the seller's references.

Finally, confirm that your notebook will accept 256MB modules. Not all do.

Craig

Unlike desktops, notebook memory is not as critical since they are not subject to OC. Unless, the SODIMM is defective from manufacturing they are usually in perfect working conditions. I'll say go ahead and buy generic but I won't put a lot of trust on auction buys.

Personally, I'd never buy generic in times like this where good quality RAM is so cheap. Just not worth the risk to save a couple of extra dollars. Never happened to me, but I've heard way too many horror stories about generic ram fouling up.
