There's a lot of hookah places around here. I guess the added social aspect makes sense. I went to my first non-familial social event today since elementary school (LAN party) and afterwards they were talking about going to a hookah bar or whatever. Thankfully they didn't decide to, lest I be brought into their drug-ingesting habits.

There are a few guys around my town who use (or at least had) a hookah for smoking reefer.

Hookah is flavored tobacco. You usually share it with a handful of people. You pass it around. They give you little plastic things to put on the end so that you only put your mouth on the little plastic thing.

You don't need to be a smoker to enjoy it. Its relaxing. I do it a few times a year.

Since a hookah is basically a big, multi-tipped WATER PIPE, over the years some folks have used it to smoke mary jane, but it's mostly always been used for tobacco, then and now.

Hookahs can be tough on your lungs to get drawing, and a lot of what you put in that big bowl is gonna go up in smoke before it ever gets to your lungs, so it's never been a particularly wise or efficient method for smoking weed.

I can see where hipsters may have glommed onto it. That will soon pass. Next up: Male crotch bras in NFL team colors worn under translucent pants.

Adding on to what has been said here, since it is a water pipe it cools the smoke down and it is not nearly as harsh as cigarettes are. Thus, its mostly for non-smokers to smoke in groups. It can be fun sometimes.

I have had many hookahs. The bowls on a hookah pipe are huge and inefficient. If you are smoking weed with a hookah you are either rich or fucking stupid.

A friend of mine at work used to be very into smoking a hookah. He was originally from Lebanon and it is culturally very commonly used in that area.

He stopped using it about 5 years ago though ... he contracted lung cancer from using it and died. There's a lesson in there somewhere ...

I've heard of people who've never smoked a day in their lives and still developed lung cancer.
