If the kids require beatings when they get to high school age then the parents really need to step it up a notch. I recommend switching from an open palm to a closed fist. It helps them remember better.

I know exactly where you're coming from and my advice to you is:
Man the fsck up and accept it because obviously you are not doing everything right. Finish your damn hw before you play video games. Somewhere along the line (it was after I graduated college for me) you will realize just how much you owe them for constantly nagging you every day to do your homework before anything else. Usually this nagging leads to learning and success, but when you become some bum and work at mcdonalds... it's your own fault. Get the fsck over it.
