Is Full Screen taking over?

I went to Best Buy today to pickup Spider-man 2 and decided to pickup Spider-man because of the 2 for $25 deal they had.

They had tons of Spider-man 2 DVDs but only about 1/4 of them were Widescreen. They also only had one Spider-man in Widescreen and a whole shelf of Full Screen.

A few months ago most movies were pretty even in Best Buy. They always stocked around the same amount of Full and Widescreens. Now it seems like they get less Widescreen for every movie.

Walmart has almost gone Full Screen only.

Has anyone noticed this? Is this just because of the holiday season, or something else?

Neh? If anything, I can't find fullscreens anymore. I wanted the fullscreen of T3 but they only had widescreen.

I really, really hope not. DVD's have converted me to widescreen.

You make baby Jesus cry.

I'm also betting that they're probably selling more widescreen, which is why there are less of them. I won't buy anything but widescreen and with television technology moving more and more towards widescreen, I kinda doubt they would phase them out.

Whenever I go to Blockbuster, fullscreens are about as common as VHS..almost everything is widescreen.

Lots of people probably buy WS, so that's why you see such an abundant amount of FS :D

Are you talking to me or Hubris? Area wise, fullscreen shows more in T3 then widescreen. I think I've had this conversation with yo ubefore...

EDIT: Edit made after Viper's reply. I like widescreen more, but, I'm still a poor college student on a regular tv, so I decided full screen was better between the two. If I had a widescreen, then widescreen woulda won. It'll be years before I can afford a new tv.

Talking to Hubris.

I don't know which T3 transfer I'd pick, probably the widescreen since that's how it was shown in theaters.

You lose some width with the 4:3 transfer, but gain height.

Now if her hair wasn't positioned where it was, 4:3 would be quite advantageous.

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I thought you'd be the first to tout the greatness of windscreen. Is there something special about T3 that one would rather get it in full-screen rather than wide-screen?

In short, yes.

http://www.digieffects.com/fra...video/filmtovideo.html

That gives a simple demonstration of it (down at the bottom).

There is a page out there with a lot more screen captures for comparison.

Unfortunately there is no clear answer in the case of the Terminator series.

Damn you Cameron!

I hope so. Blockbuster is the only store I can rent widescreen. All my local video stores stock full screen only. Unless the movie doesn't have a full screen version.

I can't believe anyone would choose fullscreen over wide. But hey, if it floats your boat, rock on. More widescreen for me. And the mere idea of buying a hacked together version of a movie simply cause you might see more of some chick's ass is ridiculous.

It's true we lose some of the picture even with widescreen, but maybe that will be solved by the successor to DVD, so called HDDVD will have extra capacity for more lines of resolution?

If you've ever watched a wide screen DVD on an old 25" "fishbowl" TV like my relatives had, you would KNOW why the fullscreen versions are out there :(

Maybe its because the director in this case personally does the pan & scan to zoom in how he wants it and I feel this version is the way he meant for us to see rather then just slashing off some of the top and bottom.
