Is DDR2 that long ago?

I can't seem to find any available motherboards to replace one that failed.

simple requirements, really:

DDR2
AMD AM3 compatible (Athlon II 640)
Micro-ATX

stable.

And yet noone seems to sell any motherboards meeting these requirements. Has DDR2 really dropped off the planet?

First of all, AM3 is DDR2/DDR3 compatible, and a real AM3 mobo will have DDR3 slots.

You are looking for an AM2+ mobo, which was DDR2, and takes AM3 CPUs (but not AM3+).

Newegg used to carry one ASRock holdout, but I noticed that just a few days ago, they seemingly stopped carrying it.

I guess look on ebay, for an AM2+ board?

Yes, DDR2 is old by now. I would guess your rig is at least 7 years old. I've had this problem in the past. The stopgap solution is to buy a used/refurbed mobo off of ebay. I'd start saving your pennies for the day you build a new machine.

PS. The newest is DDR4. DDR2 is pretty ancient these days. Not nearly as obsolete as original DDR (1) though. I just upgraded a neighbor's machine to 8GB of DDR2, because I had it around.

that's the problem. i have it around. the memory is in fine shape. the CPU is in fine shape. the rest of the system is just fine. the board is borked.

there's no need to 'upgrade', as there's no need for additional performance. hell, the CPU that's in it is vastly overkill for its use. (survelliance video recording. the frames are already encoded in x264, so it's just transcribing to harddrive... there's very little CPU load.)

Dave:

Minneapolis - Guess your across the river from St. Paul (Twin Cities). Ever been to the Peppermint Lounge where Cubby Checker made it famous back in the early 60's - I did around 1971 but it was boarded up - So was the whole block for that matter and being prepared for demolition.

What's the name of that ARC over what river river (Mississippi)? I'm Canadian so forgive my ignorance - Lots of Colored Folks and Harya Christyna in orange robs. I was Photographer, Primarily a Piano Player and Guitarist's back then and had a great time in your town - Loved the Music and the People - Lots of Booze and Drugs - I was 22 at the time - Can you believe I flew in there on a brand new Boeing 727 and I was the only passenger on board riding with a Dead Head Crew and that's when the party started - Ever hit 40,000 ft by the end of the runway with a beautiful Stewardess buckled in beside you. Long time before DDR2 and I still got a few 1MB Ram sticks laying around.

We where all drunk and young, somebody had to land the plane - Thank GOD we had faith in our Inebriated Pilot. This thing had Auto-Pilot. I think it was a Pan AM Flight. Flew a lot back then with expenses paid by my employer - Chromalex

Made a lot of money and partied hard in the 60's and early 70's. Believe it or not I'm respectively well educated with a University BSC Degree in Math, Nuclear Physics some Chemistry and a History Buff. Maybe that's why I'm a NERD.

Personal rides were a 68 Volvo 123SS, Challenger 340 Mag RS, 70 Z28 Camaro and I still ride my 71 Breganzie Laverda 750SF. Too many Volvo's, Jeeps, Leyland's, Triumph's, Norton's and Harley's ... etc - Wonderful wife (Whom I separated from) and raised 6 beautiful children.

Now I'm old and in the poor house - Where Does Time Go! - I've never used DDR2 or had the need to use it - LOL

I did a DDR1 memory upgrade in 2015 :) Horses for courses. I haven't bought any new DDR1 modules in years though.

I also had a customer ask me to give them a price for an SDRAM upgrade in the last couple of years. Also, it was something like 2007-2009 when I did my only Rambus memory upgrade.

The thing I liked about DDR3 is that it allowed you to run up 32GB's of 1866+ MHz's 9-9-9-24 1T @ 1.35mV sticks over miniscule DDR1 and DDR2 1 GB sticks @ 1.8mV and a long step from 150 Mhz 2-5-3-5 1T 2.8mV SD Dims - Just a guess, but I'm close enough ;o)
