Nice!!! Do you still have the food truck going? If yes, next time I'm in NYC, I'm seeking you out!

I wish brother.

If in NYC go to Taim. They have two locations one in the west village one in Soho. The one in SoHo has some seats. The one in the west village is smaller, but get it to stay otherwise they put their sauce on the side. Best to go outside and eat on the stairs next door all sauced up.

I don't really watch him on TV much, but his food? Fucking amazing. As a self declared steak snob, his strip is easily the best steak Ive ever eaten.

At home we use one of his meatloaf recipes and ALWAYS get compliments on it. Yeah, he's good.

What you really mean here is that the CdC and line cooks at whatever restaurant you're eating at are fucking amazing.

At this point Bobby Flay is less a chef and more a restaurateur.

I used to be a big Food Network watcher. then took a long break, then started watching it this year. But I remember when Iron Chef was still a Japanese show, and it was my favorite. They kinda had an east meets west Iron Chef and it was Morimoto vs Bobby Flay. I loved Morimoto. During the show Flay climbed up onto a table and onto a cutting board and did a 'raise the roof' thing. I thought he was the biggest douchebag.
Drat. You brought up the exact anecdote I was going to post about.

But you forgot one crucial detail. Morimoto told the cameraman that Flay's behavior showed that he wasn't a real chef — because he showed a lack of respect for his equipment and his place.

It was clearly an ugly American moment. Behavior like Flay's is, in large part, why this country is laughed at. The worst thing is that narcissism beyond the bounds of all decency is what sells here. Case in point: Trump.

Allison Kilkenny also insightfully dubbed America the land where one fails upward. Did Flay's appalling behavior on the Japanese iron chef show cost him? Nope. He was rewarded with his own Iron Chef show.

Bobby Flay's Burger Barn in the Mohegan sun has shitty hamburgers. The onion rings are some of the best I ever had though.

Comes across as a raging douchebag. But Mesa Grill is my absolute favorite breakfast/brunch stop in Vegas.

That's disappointing. When I went there, they were actually pretty good.
The patty itself was good but it was one of those soggy mess burgers. And definitely not the best burger I ever had. I can name two chains with better burgers .... Wayback Burgers and Shake Shack.

Shake Shack is hit and miss depending on franchise. The location by the Natural History museum in NYC was one of the best burgers (double bacon cheese) that I have ever had but the Shack Shack by Yale had soggy mess burgers..

I've worked in a kitchen for years. Even if I don't like his personality, I do appreciate his achievement. You have no idea how hard it is to work in a kitchen unless you've done it. I've never been to one of his places, nor do I intend to, but I do respect him as a chef. That being said, his food doesn't impress me, and I'd take his ass down in a second. True story.

I miss good eats with Alton Brown.

An education and cooking. He's a hell of a host.

First off, I am a cajun and ex-chef. I like Alton, he has a lot of basic kitchen technical knowledge, but he is not knowledgeable on regional cuisine as most people think.

Case in point. "Bowl of Bayou"

He talks about the difference between cajun and creole which he is correct. Then he proceeds to make a "cajun gumbo" but then adds tomatoes. WTH?

https://youtu.be/Gi3MPHloNbA?t=889

Then comes the Cajun blasphemy:

https://youtu.be/Gi3MPHloNbA?t=952

Boudin in gumbo??? WTH x infinity. No one, I mean no actual Cajun living or dead would put bouin in gumbo. How would that work? It is rice and pork/other meat in sausage casing. It would fall apart in the gumbo.

If I ever see Alton in person I may have to punch him in the throat for saying that.

https://youtu.be/Gi3MPHloNbA?t=1195

Also, most cajun eat gumbo with a side of potato salad, not over it. (but in the same bowl, I guess I can give him a pass on that... it is in the same bowl....)

Shake Shack has no franchises. It's all corporate owned shops

I've cooked several of his recipes. Believe me, they are fantastic. Also, he really, REALLY knows his shit. And watch him use some knives; he's a master...

He's also a dick. :)

We've eaten at Mesa Grill and it was a great meal. I like him, but he does sometimes come off as arrogant. Oddly enough though, it seems most of the people he works with like him. They talk about having meals with their families and spending time together. So maybe he's not a bad guy, who knows?
