I have no idea how BB stays in business. I used to love going there to buy stuff (way back when), but now I have a couple of gift cards that I got as Christmas presents, and I simply can't find anything even remotely worth buying. They are out of stock on so much stuff, they are overpriced on lots of other stuff, their service is horrible.

I think it's just a matter of time before they go under.

This is the problem with most tech retailers. Their inventory techies really want depreciates faster than they can mark down the prices...they are also competing with wholesalers and tax-free retailers.

I will say I got stuck in a pinch and wanted to buy my parents a TV a few years ago...I didn't shop around. I just went to BB and bought the cheapest 50+" Samsung I could get...and it wasn't that far off an online price. I probably paid a $50-70 markup including tax over the lowest possible price.

Exactly.

Tablets = not in stock
2 in 1 = not in stock
HDD = not in stock
video cards = not in stock

The funny thing was that the video cards were all being marked down 50% but they didn't actually have any.

A few years ago, I'd have cheered at the idea of Best Buy going out of business...but they've finally come around and accepted the fact that they're competing with Amazon and the other on-line retailers...so they now are willing to price match many of those places as well as the local B&M stores.

Yup, thanks to that I have shifted most of my electronics purchasing to Best Buy recently (enough to be Elite Plus or whatever this year).

That is probably bad though, I am a low margin customer. Like a buzzard if I am circling around your store looking for deals you are in trouble.

so let me get this straight.

your complaining that you read about days old Slickdeals posts about clearance items at BB and Sale priced tablets that usually sell out in the first hour of store open.

Do they allow you to use their $5 rewards (MyBestBuy) on top of the price match? I've been trying to find a reason to use them. I did take advantage of their Samsung SSD sale + a $10 reward and it was cheaper than Amazon.

What is the point of BB if they don't have anything in stock locally? That's their only competitive advantage. I can find cheaper prices, tax free elsewhere. It can be delivered to my house so I don't have to waste time driving down there. The only reason to shop there is if I want something today or I want to play with in person first. Both require it to be in stock.

Ours closed down a few months ago, which is too bad. I never buy anything there, but it was fun to play around with all the new laptops/tablets on display for a while then leave. I used to buy my netbooks at Walmart, now I just buy used laptops.

:^D

I haven't stepped into a BestBuy in over a decade. I used to love their CD selection way back in the day. They'd get some legitimately interesting stuff on occasion. Otherwise, I'm not much into gadgets, and computer stuff I get online without the BestBuy hassle.

I stopped in Microcenter for the first time a month or so ago. I'd never been, and I needed a battery for a calculator ram card. That place is like Christmasland. I didn't have time to shop, but I want to go back when I get some free time. It looked like there was lots of fun stuff to shop for.

I think you missed the point. The shelves were empty. They had nothing to sell. The regular priced items were out of stock as well. They ran a search to check other stores but they also had zero stock.

One employee was putting up tags for sales on products that they did not have any stock on and could not be ordered.

PS: I finally drove over to Microcenter which had full shelves and better selection of products, also lower prices.

Do you understand how retail works?

This time of year the mfgs are switching over product lines for the model year. EVERY retailer is having supply chain issues after a brisker than expected holiday season on certain items. Best buy has gone trough all the product they had to sell especially on clearance items. Clearance doesnt work the same at every store either its set regionally for most large retailers because they have DCs where all the product sits after it comes from the mfgs.

There are shortages in parts across a ton of categories as well.

If you were shopping in february in 1999 or 2005 there were supply issues.

Sorry If I seemed snappy but you really dont understand retail at all do you.

Best Buy has been going downhill for the last few years. This is not an after the holiday problem.

I still prefer buying things at stores. Supporting the local economy and the ease of return. Online shopping is hit or miss. The deals can be great but returning things is a chore.

Best Buy just needs to get their act together or I'll be stuck going to hhgreg.

After BB's web site revamp a few months back, now their site can't process my address. Nevermind that Newegg and TigerDirect have no problem sending packages to my address, via FedEx, UPS, and of course, USPS. It's my PayPal verified address. Yet, BestBuy won't accept it.

Oh well, they lost another customer, it seems.
