I don't like sports. I'll watch football, but I'm not a rabid fan. My whole thought process is you have players making millions of dollars to compete against each other over something that really doesn't matter. The fact they're playing over nothing kind of bores me 🙁

Of course, this was from the perspective of American Football. Getting drunk and watching a bunch of 280lb guys beat the shit out of eachother in full gear is about as big of a yawn fest as I could possibly imagine.

Then I discovered roller derby. Getting drunk and watching a bunch of women athletes in fishnet, booty shorts, and more tattoo's than your typical trance club bartender beating the shit out of eachother as they roll around a track on skates - now that I can get into.

Ugh. Some of my best friends are/were in Roller Derby. I can not stand it. Talk about boring. All the power to them though. If they like it, good on them.

As for being into sports or not, I don't see how this matters. There are lots of things I love that other people hate. And vice versa. If we all loved the same thing, the world would be pretty dull.

As for me? I couldn't imagine a world without sports, or me playing them (though my body I think has had enough) or watching them.

Amusingly, you proved precisely what type of self-entitled artificially inflated masculinity I attempt to avoid by enjoying an alternative sport. Though, it's okay - I understand why simple minds such as yourself require some type of emotional connection to braindead meatbags who play garbage like American Football. Yeah. I'm not so sure about that. I love sports. I highly value athleticism and the ability for one to push the limits of the human body. I played HS football; and would have in college had I not had a diving accident that ruptured an eardrum and was not graph-fixable resulting in me getting seriously fucked up on minor blows to the head. Possibly could have become a professional diver had that not happened. My opinions on sports have never changed - even when I played were I good enough to go pro I would have chosen not to because it did not make sense to me as a long-term lifestyle choice when there were significantly better things I could be spending my years doing (such as prepping for the real world, contributing to society in whatever meager way I was capable of doing so - you know, general morals shit).

If your hypothesis had weight, it would mean that women would have almost zero interest in sports - and I've lived in major and minor cities alike and can say with a high degree of personal authority that the majority of women I know appreciate sports, and very few are physically capable of performing period, let alone being professional in them. Not arguing that you're wrong, mind you - just that I don't quite believe that's the case.

The only thing I like about watching sports is being with other people or going out to the stadium with other people to enjoy the event.

Sitting in an armchair watching a bunch of overpaid geniuses run around on a screen is not my thing.

I like sports and think they're great, but I'm very indifferent about watching them. I don't follow any teams or sports, but I can watch it and cheer if I'm around others who dig it.

That's because you're stupid. Being a fan of a team just makes them rich. You yourself haven't wont anything. Sports fans are just nut huggers.

That said I do like MMA simply because of it's simplicity and brutality. Most team sports have too many rules that suck any kind of creativity out of it. Baseball is simply boring as fuck. Football is 3 seconds of play and 2 minutes of commercials. Hockey is the best to watch, but even then I only watch when someone else buys me a ticket.

I'm with you on this one. I also could not be less interested. I actually enjoy playing quite a few sports but watching people I don't know play them? That just seems odd. I also think it's strange people go so crazy for their home town team when the majority of the players are not from the city they play for. But like you, I have met very very few people that share this point of view. Come to think of it, i'm not sure I even know any.

the owners make so much money that they can pay for an entire roster on a professional sports team, pay the employees of their stadium, all of the coaching statff, and still probably keep millions for their own enjoyment.

This was not always the case, as baseball players, even with the longest professional season of them all, would have to find JOBS off season to pay the rent and feed the family.

Am I for that? No, but somehow the complex growing to the point where everything is so expensive and advertised up the ying-yang that we can have stadiums large enough to house several small towns (small NY/NJ Metro sized towns, that is) belies the scale.

I can understand rooting for the "home team" and all that, but the megalith has grown so fat that it no longer resembles anything but the Stadiums of Rome.

The only thing different is we don't kill anything to keep the fans entertained.

Passive entertainment for the lose. I don't watch TV either. Played football, ran track and wrestled though in HS. And wrestled in college freshman year before I got hurt. Never really liked watching but watched NCAA football in college. Watching anything sucks really. I mean would you watch a video of safari or want to go on safari? I know my choice.

since the owners are making millions on top of millions, how can you consider professional athletes overpaid?

considering that NBA teams are I believe 12man rosters, and there are 32 teams (i think) in the league, that is 384 people IN THE WORLD playing in the NBA. So out of however many BILLION people are existing on this planet, 384 of them are in the NBA.

on top of that, there are probably 20 or so (this can be argued) Elite NBA players. So now we are down to 20 or so people IN THE ENTIRE EARTHS POPULATION that are making these 'ridiculous' salaries as you are to call it.

i fail to see when there is someone willing to shell out millions and millions of dollars for their talents, who maybe 20 people in the world possess, is overpaying for that unique talent, especially considering they are making money off of their investments.
