it will be in the near future (probably 2015, but maybe late 2014) when triple a games are ported to android, more and more people are buying moga controllers which opens the possibility up more

I would love to see more emulation done on the android. Imagine playing DS or PSP games on a 10" screen.

Beyond games from Kairosoft (which are kind of all so samey that they might as well be the same game), nothing is really exciting.

Pixel Dungeon is the hands down best Roguelike on the Android market though. I'd recommend that any one try it.

+1. Pixel Dungeon is very good.

So long as people refuse to pay more than a buck or two, mobile gaming will be stuck in the cesspool of P2W micro transactions. Nothing worth getting excited about in the pipeline.

Nope. Android gaming is an absolute joke in my opinion. Most of it is centered around sucking your wallet dry. I think another big issue is that touchscreens are just horrible input devices. I'll take a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad over a touchscreen any day. They may have decent processing power but these other factors just hold them back too much. I'd much rather play games on a 486 than a modern Android device.

idk, looking at games like dead trigger somewhat redeem my hope for mobile gaming... although if we can get steamos on a phone, R&D will go through the roof...

It depends if you like games that let you play for 15 minutes before making you pay to refill your energy/stamina/mana.

it doesn't really help that the Android app store sucks for searching. You can search by broad category, name, or if they're free or not, but it lacks a more granular search.

There are some newer games that are usually ports from other systems (PSP, etc) and they were good in their original platform so they're still good.

All the real games I've seen lately are remakes of older console games that cost $10-$15 a pop. Of course you have to understand that this is to be expected. If you want a full length game that attempts to be more than a time-waster type experience, you're probably going to pay for it. It works with remakes because we remember those games and already know that they offer a full gaming experience, but any new IP is going to have an uphill battle to fight for widespread adoption.

Mobile game makers in general have really messed themselves up by building the expectation in their audience that pretty much any app should be either free or only a couple of dollars. It locks out the possibility of people wanting to pay for real, in-depth games. I see it here all the time. People will bitch about the quality of cheap games, and then bitch about the price of better games. You can't have it both ways. If you want real games, you better start expecting to pay real money for them just like you would a regular console.

Been playing this one a bit. I like it, but damn it is frustrating and hard. I die like crazy and can't seem to figure out exactly what the point is aside from just finding the stairs to keep going down. :hmm:

So that's the point then? There are no bosses or anything to clear each level? I've yet to find a weapon or armour that I can wear since I never seem to have enough strength; that's annoying too. Still kind of fun though.

It's a different type of gaming in that it's meant to be enjoyed in short bursts, and there are some gems in there.

10000000, Bloons TD 5, and Faif have been recent favorites.

Quell Memento, Rayman Jungle Run, and Ridiculous Fishing are incredibly suited for touchscreens.

I played with the nVidia's Shield at Fry's over the holiday, and I was quite surprised with the smoothness of the game and the quality of the hardware in general. I would definitely prefer controlling games with ergonomically designed unit like this one, but the size kills real portability for anyone who doesn't use a backpack.

At the end, I'm not a gamer on the go, so I'm personally not too excited about mobile platforms....

Usually :)

A lot of those Roguelikes are permadeath and have no real end. The challenge is just seeing how far you can get. No idea if Pixel Dungeon has an ending or not.

Edit: Looks like it has 26 floors from a quick Google.

OK cool, thanks. Was not really sure as I think this is the first one I've played. It's a neat little game, I was just not sure if I was missing anything. I think I've only made it to the 6th or 7th floor, so I have some work to do! :D
