The CPU forums have been tame for 3 years give or take. Now that Intel supporters/fans have something to look forward to (potentially) it would seem that any display of enthusiasm for Intel is frowned upon, not by all, but many AMD fans in here. Some AMD fans are very cool about it and actually looking forward to change. Others really are having a hard time with it. It doesn't take a lot of effort to just talk about the tech. It takes far more effort to work up witty insults and commentary to simply state what you actually mean instead of the preening peacock shows that go on in here. I am all for better CPU's from both camps, but I have been a steady intel customer for almost 2 decades and with word of Core, and Intels potential comeback, my trend will most likely continue. (Came close to jumping ship for a little while there.)

Get along folks.

I would agree with the sentiment, but not the details Keys...
I think that a major contributor is the high degree of pent up frustration that the Intel "Loyalists" have had over the years. It appears that much of their enthusiasm is coming out as over-the-top statements and claims prior to release. This is acting as "Flame-Bait" for many here...not because it's for one company or the other, but because it's just over the top.

For example in the OPs "blog post", the claim was that the PM performed 1000% faster than the Turion on an Excel macro. I proclaimed that this was absolute rubbish to which you replied

All you know is that 10:1 is hogwash. Not the whole story which you can't know if it is hogwash or not. Anyone can see that 10:1 is an unrealistic ratio, but Pentium M's are very powerful CPU's and the benefit of the doubt can be given to them

The implication here is that the PM could have performed visibly better than the Turion in this case...you are certainly knowledgable enough to know that this isn't true, and I'm surprised that you didn't say just that. The Turion and the PM are by far the most evenly matched CPUs that the 2 companies have had in a long while (props to the Isreal team). The only differences being (IMHO) that the Centrino platform itself is better on power, and the Turion is better on 64bit and price...but I digress.

The bottom line is that it's the "enthusiasm" itself (when there is a lack of acknowledgement) that begins these flame wars...
I don't feel that the board is inherently AMD-biased, only that the generally accepted belief is that AMD is the superior product at the moment. Duvie used to be just as vocal and outspoken about Northwoods when THEY were the superior product...will this all change when Conroe is finally available on Newegg? It's entirely possible...should be an interesting 2 years of see-saw! :)

BTW, I don't mean to pick on you Keys...I was just answering you implied questions/statements in a roundabout manner. I really enjoy most of you posts!

If we want to do any extensive Turion vs Pentium M benchmarking, it should probably be done in another thread. This one should be locked and/or deleted.

What offends me most is that the OP seems to have pasted a testimonial from some Intel employees blog that is not meant to be seen by the public. Yet, somehow, Mark gets banned. I can accept the mods' decision on Mark's behavior, I guess, but the OP deserves punishment for trolling, flamebaiting, and pasting copyrighted material without the consent of the author.

OMFG, laptop benchy time. I love a bit of competition.

Someone start a new thread, i'll be in.

Specs below:

Intel Core Duo (Yonah) - 1.83Ghz 667FSB
1GB Dual channel RAM - 166Mhz (5-5-5-13)
Intel 945GT Chipset
nVidia 7800 GO PCI Express x16
17 inch screen @ 1920 x 1200

Its been a while since we have had some competition on here. Of course a new thread will be needed though.

I understand where you're coming from. Yes, in no way shape or form do I think the PM bested a Turion by a factor of 10 in any bench. Visibly faster can only be measured by a stopwatch or the like. This is what I meant although did not express it enough.

Tame compared to video? Yes. Relative to itself? I feel that sometimes it is not, and that is my opinion which will NOT change. That the mods gave a few people in here a short vacation means they agree with my sentiments that users here get out of line once in a while.

For some, it does seem like a huge effort here to talk in a civil manner about Intel or its upcoming Conroe chip. I, for one, will embrace any new technology that moves us forward, so I have been looking forward to Intel's upcoming releases and expressing my enthusiasm in them, even having been an AMD fan for 5 years now.

I realize that in this thread specifically, most agree that it would be nearly impossible for two semi identical laptops to have a 10:1 performance spread, but there is no need for users to start getting upset with each other over it. I'd like to read hardware discussion in this forum without hearing "Moron! Dipshit! Asshole!" everytime. Is it that much to ask?

Anybody can post anything on the internet, thats a bunch of crap. I have a Turion laptop, and it screams.

Including this post of yours?

Nice personal dig ahole. There is no way a Turion gets beat by a Pentium-M bt 10 to 1, and you know it.

Quoted for permanence. While I agree that 10:1 is a severe exaggeration, I don't disagree that the PM completed the Excel task faster than the Turion. So what's your problem? Why the name calling?

i think he is just like that, i have seen numerous posts of his and i'm convinced he's got the mental maturity of an 8 year old.

Have a nice vacation for a week.

Mod

I want to comment on this, sorry to dig up old news. First I make a pure hardware comment. Next I get insulted. Next I say that he is "not nice" to personally insult me(in non banned words), and comment on hardware again.

This I get banned for ?

Next certain peole (dmens for one) have admmitted directly in response to other comments that he likes to start flame wars, and make people mad, and he enjoys this, but he gets no vacation for that. I see he did in this post, but I am not commenting on that specific ban.

My point is first, that way too much is tolerated here (allowing admitted flames, etc...), and next is the very inequitable treatment by the moderators, allowing major personal attacks many times, then when somebody complains (they possibly have connections??) about a post that is 100 times more sane than the rest still bans someone ? I think I was treated very unfairly, and if I get a perma-ban for saying so, that tells you exactly how unfairly these forums are moderated.
