Is AD-HOC option common ?

It didn't work very good for me. I had 2 PC's with ad hoc connectivity *&$%! They wouldn't talk to each other longer than about 5 minutes. Then I had to reboot BOTH of them to get them to talk again. After about 3 days of that anguish, I bought a wireless router/access point and now it works wonderfully. No ad hoc for me.

Oh great... Ummmmmmmm. They were $50 each on sale at Office Max a few weeks ago. I think they're D-Link. DWL-520. Something like that.

most ad hoc implementations dont work right, it hard to do properly but i would stay away from it for a while

umm the wireless lab here at MS is about 5 doors down from me and they have hardware from almost if not every vendor, the people in thw ireless group are my friends and they have told me so. I dont have a link to a whitepaper if thats what you are asking for.

I just wish I understood the problem. I mean telling me that it didnt work, and that you had to reboot to fix it, doesnt really tell me much about the problem.

What kind of problems have your friends seen from their Ad-Hoc network tests ?
