the 670 and 670Ti will have 2GB of RAM on them and from what I heard cost $300-$350 and $350-$400 respectively....

I am waiting for 4GB model 680's... HURRY!!!!

At 2560x1600 high/ultra settings in a variety of games my 680 never uses much over 1 gb so I'm not sure 4 gb even matters. In diablo 3 and starcraft 2 it uses like 500 megs, I think bf3 is like 1 gb.

but BF3 most certainly goes over 1gb of vram at 2560 because it even does that at 1920x1080. yes I know its dynamic but it actually does need over 1gb of vram for Ultra at 2560 for sure. in fact there are probably at least 4 or 5 games that can over 1gb at only 1920x1080 using playable settings on just my gtx570.

but yeah I agree that having more than 2gb of vram for single gtx680 at 2560 or below is basically useless.

you can get an EVGA gtx560 ti 448sp FTW for $215 AR. http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/720...deo-card-012p32066kr?token=AA0BBQAAAAAGOj-gqg

that would not be much slower than gtx560 sli and would provide a much more consistent gaming experience while also using less power and being 80 bucks cheaper than gtx560 sli.

The 560 Ti 448 is tempting but I think I'm going to wait it out a bit for the 660. Hopefully it will be a beast. I really hope the new cards will have 2gb of vram.

I thought I read a rumor that the 660 and 670 won't come out until the fall, though.

Amazon now has the same gtx560 ti 448sp FTW for $190 AR

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Dual-Dual...g=hardfocom-20

out of the box, the FTW version is just as fast as the gtx570 and probably can oc pretty close to gtx580 levels. the gtx660 may not be out for quite a while and will be more expensive while probably not even being much faster than this factory oced gtx560ti 448sp. so if your power supply is decent I think you should grab this.

Ok I'm not going to respond to the flames and the nonsense.

I'm coming to the realization that a GTX 560 is a sidegrade for me.

I'm going to wait for the GTX 670 and 660 to come out and hopefully drive down the prices of the faster cards like the GTX 580.

I'm really not trying to flame here, but knowing the resolution you game at is pretty important. I assume 1080? If that's the case, you're definitely right to consider the 560 a sidegrade. It has pretty much the same hardware as the 460, IIRC.

edit: Guess I should probably finish the thread next time...

Well another thread in the VC&G forums went to crap in a quick way.

Things disintegrate so quickly here. There'd be a loss less energy expended on sniping if:

1. The O.P. listed specs in the opening post and if he didn't....
2. The more judgmental members would simply respond "Please list your specs, we need them to make a recommendation" instead of some withering diatribe.

I think some are skilled at flying just under the "report post" radar enough to keep from getting call on it.

if you are new here or hardly ever post then I understand. acting lazy and helpless after 12 years and 12 thousand posts makes no sense. even most of the brand new people here at least post their specs like they are supposed to.

But who cares? Its just a question, we are all humans here and there are MUCH bigger problems afoot other than him not saying he has 12gb RAM.

You know what, I'm old school and I didn't realize that there was a set format for asking for advice on here.

toyota has been more than helpful so I'm not going to cry about his flaming me to the mods.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to wait for the GTX 660. People are saying it should be about as fast as a GTX 580 and will come with 2gb of vram.

A 660TI will probably be a bit slower, like 10% or so than a GTX 580. But it will easily cost around $300 or so as well

If I am not mistaken, 560 TI 448 at stock is nearly a 570 performance and once overclocked comes within 10% of a 580 stock. So at $190 it is steal :)

What games do you play? Have you also considered an AMD upgrade?

I don't game very much which is why I don't want to spend more than $200.

I play BF3, Crysis, Crysis 2, some COD games, Starcraft 2, and some Need For Speed. I'll often check out the newer games as well.

I've considered AMD but they don't really have much in the $200 price range. I thought about doing 6870 Crossfire but people have convinced me to go with a powerful single card.

I'm going to keep my eye on the GTX 560 448 as it seems to be the best deal at around $200. I like that it will overclock to be as fast as a GTX 580.

AMD has 7870 which when overclocked trades blows with a stock 580 if not a bit faster. At stock it is about 5-10% faster than a 6950 in most benchies.

With these cards you will need to play at 1080p or lower, and without any AA most of the times.

Crysis and Crysis 2 would be even more demanding can't be maxed out at 1080p even without AA. I assume that you need avg FPS 60 and min around 40s. I know because I had a 6970 which is in the same tier as these cards.

My 7970 1175 1625 manages about 50+ FPS avg in Crysis 1 with min about mid 30s or so. Just about playable, decent, not perfect. On a stock 7970 it would be unplayable for me because the avg FPS would be 38-41 or so and min barely 30. This is at 1440p. A GTX 580 stock / 7870 OC would barely manage 1080p without AA without AF and avg FPS around 50s or so.

Crysis 2 1080p Ultra with High res pack with Dx11 I manage mostly 65-80+ with min in 30s and 40s. At 1440p it even goes as low as 20s and isn't playable. To play at 1440p I need to remove Dx11 and His Res pack to still get a respectable minimum of 50s or so.
