Apartment living is all about compromises. As somebody who grew up in one I learned that quickly. You are going to hear noises.

But there are limits. Blaring music at an unreasonable volume is just plain rude. What if the guy next door doesn't like your crap. He has no choice but to listen to it. Why even have walls then?

I had a neighbor once who cranked his stereo all the time. I thought it was too loud. Management agreed with me. He was evicted.

??? have you ever had a party, been to one? put 10-20 people in a room talking and you will hear even them in the next room pretty easy....add music again that you can hear and your neighbor is bound to hear it albeit muffled.
Why would you have a party in an apartment? Like I said, everyone I've known would have been smart enough to know that a party is loud, and it would be a quick way to piss off your neighbors in an apartment.

Dude, it's college apartments, we have a party every single night in almost every single apartment :)

Well, I simply told my neighbour, if he is ever bothered by my music, he should just IM me or come up to the door. We are good buds. And my next door neighbour is my friend who doesn't give a damn :)

What time is appropriate? Not before noon as far as I'm concerned.

This is verbatim, what I was going to post. I am the KING of loud music and movies; and I will not play the music past "conversational level" until well after 12:00 PM.

Freakin' blasting volume levels (what I watch movies at) shoudn't be attempted until around 2:00PM and shouldn't go past 9:30-10:00PM, IMO.

This is assuming you have normal neighbors that work days like you do.

I have had enough "neighbors called the cops AGAIN" experiences for any twenty people you know.

That is why I'm buying a house. With a basement. And I'm soundproofing it. And building my HT down there. My Inner Sanctum. :wine::cool: That is where they will find my body. With a big, broad smile on my face and the volume at 00db.

ps
And all you whiny people that weez out "if you live in an apartment, you should never play your music loudly!" can all kiss my @ss. Every last one of you. :p I have lived next door to you all for long enough! *packs sh1t* I've had it! *calls moving company* I am buying a house, hopefully with no other houses within 100 feet of mine. Out in the middle of a field would be my preference, but then I couldn't get cable TV/internet. :p Kiss my @ss. :p

:D Same here M, I am going to buy a house in a couple of years and probably make the best Home Theater ever in the basement ;) How does 20,000 Watts total sound? :D

My neighbours will never call cops on me because I am good with all of them and I asked them to let me know if I ever get too loud the first day I moved in. Did you neighbours just call cops on your or did they ask you to turn it down before? :)

Ah, here we go. My music and movies, played at reasonable hours, is no good.

But yet the following is JUST FREAKIN' FINE:

Your kids rollerskating in the breezeway....at 7:00AM on Sat and Sun.
Your kids yelling and screaming in front of my bedroom window at 7:00AM, 1:00PM and 11:30PM every damn day
Your poor little Shiztu "Muffin" barking all fcking day long b/c "he misses you"
Your alcoholic husband banging on your door at three in the morning again b/c you locked him out...again
Your parties you throw on Thursday nights...the music isn't that loud but the 45 people on your patio ARE....until five in the morning, when I get up
rolleye.gif

Your teenage son blasting his car stereo in the parking lot...right under my window while I'm trying to sleep

See my point? It's called "Living in an Apartment." Along with all YOUR crap comes my music, which I try very hard to keep to a minimum. I.E. not past 9:30-10:00PM on ANY day of the week. If you know for sure that my music will magicaly disappear by 9:30 and I don't throw wild parties, why bitch?

Having lived in apartments for about 8 years, I think I can safely say that loud music and apartments should be mutually exclusive. At all times.

Exactly. Consult with your lease.

The music is TOO LOUD if it disturbs anyone in a neighboring unit. Too loud means it affects their life, i.e. they have to raise the volume on their TV or raise their voice to hold a conversation. IF they can hear lyrics in a song, it's too loud. This doesn't matter WHAT time of the day it is. Fools that think they can blast their kilowatt boom systems at their pleasure after a certain hour are full of it. If I had such a neighbor, I would kindly inform them of this. That failing, they (along with the property management) would be getting letters from my attorney.

Cheers!

I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd beat their behinds for doing this.

No dog.

As above, I'm considerate enough to have my party at someone else's house.
Your teenage son blasting his car stereo in the parking lot...right under my window while I'm trying to sleep
See #1 and 2.

I, as your theoretical neighbot, have been quiet and met all of your complaints with responses. I'm silent. You can't hear me unless I'm moving or I drop something. *You* are the inconsiderate one making noise.

Hmmm even movies show apartment parties. You do realize in some cities no one has a 'house'.

Are you somehow mentally handicapped? It's not just you and MichealD in the world (which he acknowledges)...like I said above also, way more than anyone's music I have been disturbed by children (inc bassers in the parking lot coming home at 2-3am which happens even if you have a home), visitors, and pets barking and barking all day long or in the hallway during their 6am walk.

Maybe YOU don't disturb anyone, but then again maybe YOU have no life either. What do you do for fun in your apartment? Walk around listening to Yanni on wireless headphones all day?

Really? I'm glad there are smart people in the world like you to point things like that out to me.

this is a real sore subject with me. My g/f has some serious jerks that live below her. 3 times already we have waken up to floor vibrating music and loud pulsing bass at 5 AM!!!

One time it didn't start til 7 AM and went on for 3 hours until we finally went down to talk to them. We were literally pounding on their door for 10 minutes but their music was so loud, they didn't hear us knocking. Finally, went to management.

I think the environment dictates the music level as well. You live in college apartments. Loud music is apart of college life but I still say you have to be considerate. Where as my apartment complex as well as my g/fs apartment complex is very much family oriented (except for the dicks below my g/f) and music should be kept at a reasonable volume except maybe the weekends and maybe only for a couple hours at most. No one should have to listen to loud bass and have their apartment vibrate for 2+ hours.
