Way too early.

What time is appropriate? Not before noon as far as I'm concerned.

dude then i only have 10 hours to play loud music :( between 12pm and 10pm :(
That's what headphones are for. Get a good pair and you'll be just fine.

9am on the weekend too early.

1am friday and saturday I'd say would fly in most places.

You have to know what kind of neighbors you have though.

Depending on your apartment complex it may NEVER be allowed to play loud music. Think of the families with babies, etc. If someone complains about your music, it doesnt matter what time it is, you will be told to turn it off.

Nice!

Loud music in an apartment should never be ok... I don't want to listen to anyone else's music no matter what time it is. Plus, not everyone works the normal 9-5... there are people that need to sleep during the day.

I agree with the headphones before noon argument.

Buy a pair of Grados and you'll be happy. I love my SR60s, and they were cheap.

I love these FREAKING RETARDS that must be from Poodunk, AK or something about apartment/condo life.

Ever really hang out in NYC? Chicago (not illinois, but the main city in it)? Last I checked there are no houses, even the private 'brownstones' are attached to another almost always. While I don't think anyone expects anyone else to put up with music loud enough to hear clearly in their next door apartment, you have to expect some muffled sound to come through....same way if a get together is going on upstairs....I have lived on the top floors of everywhere I have been, but visiting others sometimes you can hear steps, esp tiled apartments and less than ideal sound isolation between floors.

As much as it is your right for quiet, so is it theirs to entertain *occassionally*. I usually keep it on a low profile when I am living in apartments, but I will say the absolute largest disturbance has always been babies, children running up and down the hallways (usually always visitors), and spouses/live-in's yelling to each other down the hall (usually way before 9am).

For the people that say 'get a house and stopping renting [because you are poor/cheap/whatever]', I have been to many places costly several $100k for a small place.

They usually say get your butt out of the country and a real job to get a city flat.

I wouldn't go out and mow my lawn at 9:00AM.

I used to live below some really annoying people who used to fight with each other until all hours of the night. God I hated living there when those fvcktards lived above me. Asshats.

Excuse me but some of the answers in this thread are plain stupid. In my first msg, I told you all that my neighbour is already awake (wakes up at 6:00 am). So schedule is no excuse.

Also, it seems like a lot of you have never lived in an apartment. I don't know how apartments are in your place but if you dont pay $1500+/mo. for your place, there will always be noise. I am in the top floor and once when I had friends over, I went down to my neighbour's place to ask him if he wanted to come and while I was down there, I heard all my friends walking around in my place.

Even when you shower in the morning, there will so much pipe noise, you just need to get used to it.

And please don't tell me to get house since I am gonna be gone to Europe for the rest of my life in a couple years. Huge ass brick apartments = no sound passing between walls :D
Well either way, thanks for everyone's input.

If you're just going to criticize the advice given, why post this question at all? It's rude to play loud music period in an apartment. I know I don't want to hear what my neighbor listens to no matter the time.

Because there is no reason to bother people with your music. Turn it up so that you can hear it. Just don't make it so loud that anyone else can hear it. That's their home, they have a right to quiet. Do you really need the music that loud?

You also need to consider that some of them work nights. They'd be asleep then. How would you like it if they blared music while you were sleeping before a big test?

Also, we pay $300/mo for our apartment, and I can't hear my neighbors, unless they drop a hammer or something. Your music may go farther than your immediate neighbor, you should consider that.

Edit: Sorry, browser weirdness

I posted the question because I wanted to see what most people thought. I didn't say I will agree with what you think and do whatever I want to do in lines of your advice. I was just curious.

Besides, from your (or people with no loud music whatsoever point of view) point of view, I shouldn't play loud music anytime, even when my neighbour is gone. Geezus people, some of you must have never been to college or college towns.

Being in college has nothing to do with being inconsiderate to people. I was in college, people were quiet, even during the day, in my dorms.

weird. here in VT, people in my apartment complex (4000 people) are never quiet. People party 24/7. Cops won't even bother coming if you call them at 3:00 AM about people being too noisy.

Because you shouldn't be an inconsiderate ass since there are other people living there. I live in a college town in an apartment full of college kids and for the most part everyone is quiet. Maybe you don't have class until 2pm the next day and can stay up partying but I need to sleep so I can work so put on a pair of headphones. Maybe you're up early and want some loud music, well its my day off and I want to sleep in so put on some headphones and turn it up as loud as you want. Perhaps there college means you don't have anything to do, but it just means when I get the rare chance to sleep I don't want to hear some assclowns bad music thumping my walls.

I live int he dorms on Hurlburt Field AFB. I work mid shift (11pm-8am) being a saturday and there was no work I was released at 5am. Started playing loud music at 6a, even though all of the day and swing shifters are asleep, most after partying on a Friday night! I don't care though technically this is my Friday night anddddddd they are all loud and drunk while I am sleeping before work just cuz their weekend started, BAH TO THEM!

so nope, play on bro!

Well, the people I went to college with were generally friendly. Southern hospitality and all that. I don't think I ever met anyone I really hated, except for a few of the "America sucks". People very much respected privacy and I never heard a stereo or coversation through the walls.

??? have you ever had a party, been to one? put 10-20 people in a room talking and you will hear even them in the next room pretty easy....add music again that you can hear and your neighbor is bound to hear it albeit muffled.

Well if they work nights they are going to be / or should get used to being inconveinced by it. Hell solicitors alone call 9a-9p....never 9p-9a. You can't make rules based on the minority....you'd be lucky to even be able to breathe. If the neighbor has a problem, they should let the person know they do.

Also, we pay $300/mo for our apartment, and I can't hear my neighbors, unless they drop a hammer or something. Your music may go farther than your immediate neighbor, you should consider that.

Some people pay $3k+ and have paper thin walls. Money for the place and the noise you hear are not a great comparison. I just scored the deal of a lifetime on a nice apartment for $500. The only noise I hear is in the bathroom and for my wife it is a little concerning. You can hear our neighbor's bathroom very clearly....even when he is in his tub and the water beating on the sides of it. We have a large tub so I am betting they narrowed the wall there to clear the tub and also probably no insulation where the pipes are running....we are probably looking at two sheets of drywall and a 4" noise barrier.

Why would you have a party in an apartment? Like I said, everyone I've known would have been smart enough to know that a party is loud, and it would be a quick way to piss off your neighbors in an apartment.
