Is 80MPH to fast too drive on a freeway?

Road condition were completley dry, it was 10PM, so almost no traffic, and i was off in the Boonies.

Ladyfriend says its dangerous i say its not, u decide...

I was doing 80 all the way from Denver to Joplin earlier this week, seemed fine.
I had quite a few people passing me as it was, kinda felt as if I was going to slow.

80mph is typical traffic speed (or slower) on I75..at least in FL.

if you hit something, you'd be in trouble.
but then again, if you hit something at 70mph, you'd also be in trouble.

80 is ok in my book.

it all depends on YOU
i can handle 90 or so on a 65mph highway here in ohio, (especially on i75 here where the typical traffic is 75mph too) depending on conditions (dry road and clear view).., thats because I have great reaction and can monitor the idiots to make sure i wont be apart of an accident.
but if you cant keep your vehicle under control and be constantly alert for negligent drivers, then no.. its not a safe speed.

depends on your driving skills, is how that can be summed up.

heck I think most people in socal do 80 if there's no traffic

You, OTOH, are a new driver and should probably slow it down until you are more experienced.

Idk, I was doing fine going 80 down I95 in the summer (liscence for aboue 2.5 months and the parents were in the car since it we were coming back from vacation), but the speed of traffic was anywhere between 65 and 90 depending on which lane you chose to travel in.

That and slow vehicles that have to be slow (haulers and trucks included) stay on the respective slow lanes.

It depends on how good a driver you are, plain and simple.

In the DC-Metro area, 75 seems to be standard operating procedure anyway, so 80 isn't a great leap or anything like that.

I think the only real problem is that you are new to driving. I am 23 and have been driving 6+ years. I know for a fact that I am a better driver now than I was when I was 18. I would keep it around 70 until I had been on the road longer. Also, a Mercury Sable isnt exactly a sports car. 80mph is pushing the limits of that car's ability to handle *well*

80 MPH at 10PM, no. What you can't see can kill you. 80 MPH when it is dry and daylight, no problem.
