Is $6 enough to give to a homeless man?

A man approached me and asked for money while I was pumping gas. I gave him $6 but now am wondering if I should have given him a little bit more. I was thinking that $6 would be enough for a nice meal at McDonalds or something....

What kind of question is that? I'm sure they appreciate whatever you give them?

If homeless people want a handout, they need to go to a shelter. I will NEVER give money to someone on the street. I would, however, donate to a shelter.

While it's rude to stereotype, there are many people that are on the streets because of their squandering and piss-poor management of money. Giving them some won't help that.

$6 was more than enough. Last year about a week before Christmas I gave a homeless man all the change in my work van. I had cleaned all the change out of the cup holders and put it in a ziplock baggie. There must have been close to $15 in change. It made me feel good because it was so close to Christmas.

Umm... Yeah, I don't like people begging for handouts. If they're not grateful for $6, they can go to hell.

if you give a homeless person something, dont make it money. buy them some food or something that they need. i hate to be stereotypical(sp?), but some homeless people will use it to buy alcohol like some people have said here. they will still appreciate it, and you arent contributing to their problems

I say that to most but some are actually just really down on luck and dont drink all the time (or shoot up for that matter). There are a couple of guys that i give money to when i see them. The rest i tell to get a job.

I thought this way for a bit, but then I realized that I wasn't going to use the money for anything more than drugs or alcohol either.
