Is $6 enough to give to a homeless man?

If you make the money, then you can spend it on whatever you want.

F them, I have never asked for a handout. Get a job, there are plenty of jobs out there that noone wants to do.

I wouldn't be taking any X that is that cheap. Go bleach! It's $20 a pill for real stuff.

To the OP: It depends, did he give you a hj, bj, or the whole shabang?

theres an old saying about give a man a fish, feed him for a day. teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime. giving money doesn't help him. there are shelters or he can try doing odd jobs like recylcing cans. better than those who just stand at a corner with a sign.

Yes, considering most of them can get all the food they need from a shelter. In fact many of them make more than those on minimum wage. Especially on days when the weather is bad, or around holidays. they can really pull it in, pay no taxes on it, and run off to a shelter for a meal. This is why you shouldn't give the homeless money, much as you shouldn't feed animals at a park. Give the money to a charity, because it will go to better use than whatever crap a so-called homeless person will use it on.

Although stories of "homeless" guys who walk to their cadillac at the end of the day are not common (although I do recall reading about that one), I have never in north america seen a person literally starving to death, or without adequate clothing freezing to death. give it to a charity.

6 bucks is a bit too much, if a homeless person got 6 bucks from 10 people out of the 100s they pass a day he would have 60 bux a day, thats 1800 a month...not a bad living...

anyways a dollar seems more like it, its not my job to fund a poor mans lifestyle.

Look, if someone is on the street, obviously they are not right in the head. If they are alcoholic, even moreso.

You can call it mental illness, you can call it genetic predisposition, you can call it weak character. Doesn't matter.

Thing is, they are hungry, cold and jonseing. And if you can't feel for that, then I pity you.

If you'd rather give them food, that's fine. If you'd rather give to a shelter, that's fine.

As for "get a job," they are there because they've been fired from 20 jobs. It might be because they hear voices, it might be because they are stupid, it might be because they just never learned self-dicipline. Again, doesn't matter. Does why really matter? Would you really want every person that never learned self-dicipline to starve?

Agreed. If you are going to help the homeless get them food, don't give them money. Cause all they'll do with money is buy booze.

A man approached me and asked for money while I was pumping gas. I gave him $6 but now am wondering if I should have given him a little bit more. I was thinking that $6 would be enough for a nice meal at McDonalds or something....

What you're trying to get across or rather get from us is that youre an amazing person that gave so much to a homeless person. Reverse psychology works only on small kids man....

Yeah, but don't give them the golden arches. Get them some real, nutritional, healthy food

It's more about what will last him longer, Mc D's, or high energy healthy food? Option 2

While it's rude to stereotype, there are many people that are on the streets because of their squandering and piss-poor management of money. Giving them some won't help that.

Most are mentally ill.

You know that panhandlers make well above minimum wage. The good ones are upper-middle class and drive new cars, as soon as they finish a long day on the freeway offramp.

If they want a meal, there are shelters. Donate your money to those instead.

Giving any money to a beggar or panhandler on the street is the stupidest thing you can do.

 I'd want to survive longer. BTW, someone evidently wants to be stranded on an island with you

I've stopped giving handouts of cash, I had a guy ask me for some money for some food one time, I had 1/4 a loaf of bread and some lunch meat with me in my cooler (I had been making sandwiches on a road trip), I offered him that (including the cooler w/ice in it) since I was out of cash myself and he said nevermind....guess he wasn't that hungery after all. I understand folks being hard up for cash (been there myself, without the homeless part), but it's kinda strange when a guy is on a corner with a sign that says he needs work, and there are "now hiring" signs on all the corner convenience stores nearby.
