North Face is pretty good stuff. And if you actually require good gear for hiking, skiing or whatever, buy it. I mostly consider people buying Northface stuff these days as idiots.

I don' buy Northface because I don't want to be seen in it. Mountain hardware, etc is what I buy. None of this poser crap.

Never too old to rock TNF gear when you are using it in the proper elements (back country).
Their Summit Series line is pretty good.

North Face is some pretty good stuff. I have a sleeping bag from them that's 30 years old. Still keeps me toasty when camping in the low 30s. It's old school mummy bag.

A good quality jacket that keeps you warm no matter the temperature is a must have, and not many jackets will do that.

I never bought anything northface, but I also don't go sking, hiking in the cold or do anything extreme in extreme weather.

Always found their stuff to be overpriced. But if I was to need quality gear to protect me, I would def consider them.

I still wear the North Face jacket I bought in 1988 (back when North Face stuff was all made in the USA). Of course I'm ten times cooler than anyone else so I make The North Face look so good they should pay me to wear it.

I wondered about that, back then they were the ultimate shit in outdoor/cold gear (testament my sleeping bag still going strong after sleeping in rain/snow, etc).

I need a new jacket, and have no idea where to go anymore. But back then it would have ONLY been north face. Was fishing this past weekend in 30 degree, windy weather, all day on the water. I thought I had enough cold gear, but I was still a little cold. Bearable, but cold and NOT toasty. 4 layers.

Made me realize you can never have enough cold weather gear.

Yeah I still have a North Face sleeping bag (Purple Haze) from ~1989 and a tent (VE25) from 1986. The bag is like new but the tent floor is finally wearing out. I sent the tent in for zipper repair maybe three years ago and The North Face still honored the lifetime warranty even though the brand has been bought up by VF Corp.

North Face WAS pretty good stuff. Now it's far from "good quality gear".
If you're looking for quality stuff that will last you 30+ years like some of you are mentioning, do not get North Face. For god's sake you can buy it at Kohls.

Arc'teryx
Marmot
Even Patagonia stuff will blow North Face out of the water.

North Face gear was all over Vail when I was there, worn by young and old.

Skinny jeans are the issue.

I can't force myself to pay $260 for a coat when I can turn around and buy the same thing with a columbia logo for $60.

Same for fleeces, I find columbia fleeces on sale for like $30 all the time. North Face is outrageous.

North face is not hip and is perfectly acceptable for any age. Those jeans should NEVER be worn by a man, period.

North face still makes good gear like tents, bags, etc. it isn't 't necessarily the best, but still acceptable/great in some areas. The clothes can be a serious hit or miss, but you can still find some quality stuff in the mix.

I'm not partial to a brand. They all have a mix of quality. Fit and finish are my biggest concerns...not brand.

I didn't realise there is an age restriction on generic 'performance' outerwear.

I agree. They're not even stylish, it's just a stupid fleece with a label on it. If it was highly stylized then yeah maybe you should ask your kids whether or not you can wear it. But the one Paul Ryan is wearing in that picture is just a comletely generic (overpriced) fleece, who gives a shit?

Besides, all the cool people know that Goretex is the shit.

Really, you care about shit like that?

I got a northface jacket last year because it was clearanced down to $24.00 and it works pretty well. It is made better than the other stuff in that price point also. I wear it to my office job and outside generally all fall. Guess I'm just a poser...

I've got a light North Face jacket and a pair of khaki cargo pants that I love. The jacket is great for the wind and rain and the pants are durable but also comfortable.

North Face is WAY overpriced. But, if you find a good item on sale go for it.

Columbia offers the same product at 1/2 the price.

Generic house brands offer the same product at 1/4 the price.
