You're a sophomore, you still have time to smoke pot and slack off. Don't wait until it's too late.

I have no idea why kids are this obsessed with school that they think a 3.83 GPA is good enough.

I had a 3.5 exactley once I graduated High School, and I'm on my way to making 80K a year right outside of college in SAP systems with 100% job placement in the Chicago - Milwaukee area.

Just make sure you have extra cirriculars. That is the most important in my book. Colleges these days (at least in the UW system) would much rather see a lot of extra cirriculars than a 4.0 gpa.

For a high school GPA, it's okay. I wouldn't bet on getting into a top school, but it isn't impossible certainly (depending on your other achievements). For a college GPA, it's great.

this is like Grandma's Boy when he wins at dance dance revolution and gets a high score and goes "ohh ohh high score! what does that mean!? is that bad??? did i break it?!?!?!"

heh

i have no idea what the people above me are talking about, with a max of 4.0 gpa (not counting honors or AP classes) 3.83 is nearly a perfect gpa. In HS most people gwt what a 2.5? ssome of you are smoking something if you think this is only "ok"

Its not that hard to make a 4.0 taking regular level high school classes. I doesn't it really merits anything. And getting all Bs in honors courses isn't impressive either.

I had a .012 GPA out of high school. Accepted at every college I applied to. I had a 3.2 college GPA when I transfered. Accepted at every college I applied to. Had a 3.6 applying to grad schools. Accepted at every school I applied to. Mind you, I never applied to ivy league schools, nor am I interested in business or law schools. Make of that what you will.

You shouldn't have graduated high school. You must have applied to some really crappy colleges that basically accept anybody with money.

Sort of. I had only passed one class in high school after 4 1/2 years (suspensions, expulsions, attendance, attitude, & lack of homework) so I went to community college (1510 SAT's, 99th percentile on all other exams) and earned my high school diploma in a year. After that there was no problem. I only applied to about 6 colleges for my first two years, and 4 for my last two. But there were no problems with any of them. Grad school I applied to 8 and was accepted at 8. Again no ivy, but that's not my thing anyway. It doesn't matter what college you got your degree from when you're teaching high school. Pay is the same regardless.

Hate to tell everyone that struggled to do it, but unless you're going into a very limited number of fields (business, law, engineering) your grades are almost totally irrelevant to the rest of your life. They're useful if you're only average in every other way, but if you can ace tests, or get published early, or have stellar extra-curriculars then you're golden regardless.

For me, a 3.0 is good enough - I need that to keep some of my financial aid.

3.83 / 4.0 = 0.9575 = 95.75%. Sounds pretty good to me.

Sophomore, don't worry about college just yet, focus on HS first. End of junior year is when you will.

Anyway, college just looks at your final GPA for all 4 years, not each quarter for each year...

This is an example of either one of two people:

a.) attention whore.

or

b.) book smart but no common sense.

wtf what world are you living in? it may nto be hard for you or me, i got a 3.6 overall GPA in HS and that with almsot failing senor year because i stopped trying, got a .08gpa for first semester. But what is the average GPA for students in HS in the entire US? what about your state? what about yoru city? and what about your specific school? I guarantee you it isn't a 3.0 or above.

college is what you make of it. I had a 2.9 when I got accepted, but my senior year 1st quarter grades(the grades you send in along with transcripts) averaged to like a 3.9. I got into all 4 of the schools I applied to. University of San Francisco, University of Seattle, Plymouth State University (anyone can get into PSU) and University of Maine. Those are all great schools, but they aren't top notch or their reputation isn't as great as Yale, Princetone, etc.... but college is what you make of it. I heard from engineering majors that public school courses in engineering were much more difficult than those taken at ivy league schools. it's all about reputation and how much that matters to you.

my advice is to not pay attention to reputation and go to a school that meets your needs. YOUR needs should be your first priority when selecting a school. Not to impress your friends, your parents, or yourself. Do what benefits you the most. College is what you make of it, and if you remember this, you can work your ass off and graduate the best in your class.

no, but if you fail that many classes, you'll need to retake those classes, and that takes time...

For college, 3.83 is quite excellent for most most majors. for HS, you'll need 4.0+!! I had 4.4 in HS but I'm hanging below 3.5 right now in college... even though its my first year.

I have a question for those who are in or have completed college. In my sophomore year in the first semester I have a 3.83 GPA. Will this affect my chance of getting into a good college? Thanks!

Yes, that is the worst GPA I've ever seen. You should get a broom and start practicing for your career in the custodial arts.

That said, I graduated from UCLA with Corporate Thug in 2005. He had a 4.0+ high school GPA, and I had a 3.0 GPA in high school.

yet you make so much more money than I do....

Only taking 1 advanced class (got a B in) so I doubt it will make a difference because I'll just own next semester and the two after it. Thanks for the advice.
