If you're on a 4.0 scale a 3.83, with good test scores, will get you in a lot of places.

Right now I have a 3.78 in college... chemical engineering... it's a bit harder than HS.

I don't think it makes much difference, though. My GPA when I graduated from college was higher than that and it hasn't helped me get a job.

QFT. In the real world GPA is meaningless unless of course you are running for office and your Daddy got you into an ivy league school. Although, things like running businesses into the ground don't seem to make much difference...which is probably why you went into politics in the first place.

I had a ~2.7 in High School and I unforunatly have a ~1.89 in college. I wasn't a big fan of going to class. :( Looking at the bright side one of my friends isn't going to college because he's in jail. Another still hasn't graduated high school and has a kid. The last one just took out a loan on a new used car, lost his job, is now being persued by his credit card company because hasn't been making payments for the and lost his job.

So, I still feel pretty good about myself. I really wish I found out I was ADD when I got to college 1 1/2 years ago. :(

What do you mean by advanced? If I was back in High School I'd take as many ****** possible AP Classes (Classes that count for college credit) as I could. Right now I am taking introductory classes for Anthropology and Sociology. Not only are this classes boring as ****** but I am also paying for the classes, the books and wasting my time taking these classes because I have to take them to get into the program for my major.

Accepted at every school I applied to. Mind you, I never applied to ivy league schools, nor am I interested in business or law schools. Make of that what you will.

You shouldn't have graduated high school. You must have applied to some really crappy colleges that basically accept anybody with money.

wtf what world are you living in? it may nto be hard for you or me, i got a 3.6 overall GPA in HS and that with almsot failing senor year because i stopped trying, got a .08gpa for first semester. But what is the average GPA for students in HS in the entire US? what about your state? what about yoru city? and what about your specific school? I guarantee you it isn't a 3.0 or above.

Are you kidding me? He had a .012 GPA in high school. Thats failing almost everything. The fact that he graduate high school is amazing. I'm not discrediting his good college grades, but I am baffled has to how he graduate high school with a .012 GPA. I'm even more baffled that a college accepted him with his horrible high school performance.

On the other hand, mine was a 2.9 and I got a great job. (You can't be in a bar band and learn at the same time). That's life for you :)

It's because you've been convinced that things are only one way your entire life by people who get paid to tell others that. When I realized how full of crap most everyone was I got really angry.

I passed one class in high school, if you were wondering. Drama actually, because the teacher was my mentor and like a second father to me. It was obvious I was never going to change so the principal arranged a meeting with a counselor at the local community college after my SAT scores came in. He showed him that I already had knowledge above most high school graduates and explained that my failures were based almost entirely on personality and social conflicts. The counselor agreed so they let me in on probation. I had to basically do high school with college level courses.

Once I had finished high school that way I also had college classes on my transcript so from then on it was mostly about test scores and being able to impress the admissions people. That was fairly easy for me so off I went and I've never had a problem since.

Any school needs students to continue to exist. If you show that you have a brain and can pay then they accept you. If a program is competitive then they usually base entrance on a number of factors, not just grades. When you can score the maximum (or very nearly) on absolutely every test they throw at you they forgive your past mistakes, especially if you show that you're doing better. When you add military service, community service, job experience, numerous certifications, and so on into the mix you can move way ahead of a nineteen year-old kid with a 4.1 GPA and not much else.

I've never had an employer ask for my grades, or transcripts. Again, the only time those types of things matter is with a very VERY limited slice of reality. For most people it will NEVER come up. There is almost never only one truth to anything, despite what they tell you. Just learn the system and find your niche. Play to your strengths. *shrug* I don't know what else to say about it.

If you're dying to get into a tier 1 law school, or become a corporate thug, or something similar then I guess those things would matter and you should care. Since I have no interest in them they don't figure in to my reality.

Depends on a lot of things. What classes you have been taking, what kind of high school you attend, your school's grading scale, what kind of college you are interested in attending. but overall 3.83 is pretty good. although unfortunatley with the high school grading situation as it is, it's not spectacular

Either OP is bragging, or he's too dumb to tie his own shoelaces due to lack of common sense.

I had a 4.0 unweighted, my friend had 3.9 unweighted, we both had 1400+ on our SAT (old one 1600 max)

He didnt get into the college we applied to. Lots of good colleges require either a 4.0 unweighted or a lot of AP work. You can get into a ton of ok colleges with a 3.83 but the really good ones require more than that.... lets face it. 4.0 in highschool is cake.... now a 3.83 in college if it was a hard college, i would say is pretty good.

GPA is not meaningless. What if you want to get into a top grad school? There are plenty of higher end entry level jobs with GPA requirements too.

I had an awful GPA in HS, but I scored best in my school in the ACT. Harvard wouldn't have accepted me, but most other schools would. It just depends on what you want to do really.

After you get your first job, nobody cares.

Alot of schools offer Advanced Placement classes (may go by a different name) where you get an extra point on your GPA. So technically a 5.0 is the max.

Correct. That was the case at my school and 3.83 was actually average or slightly above average. I had a 4.3, most of the "smart" student had above 4.1. So you morons stop making fun of his question, the only thing he did wrong was not put the GPA scale his school is on.

I said in the real world. School != the real world.
