My family has two cars in our house. My father just told me that the reason he bought his 1963 Land Rover was to discourage driving, because last year, the cars in our family drove a total of 30,000 miles (Let's say 15k and 15k).
We are a family of five. The kids use the cars for socializing, when we are to drive. My mother probably drives 250 to 300 miles per week. 500 mile round trips are made to my sister's college tri-annually. 15k miles per car does not seem like a lot, and yet he thinks it is.
The only thing I can think of is that he feels like we socialize too much, but that is far from true. I'm in by 11pm everynight, except for the very few where I sleep over at someone's house, or have permission to stay out later.
So is 15k/year too much? Why the hell would my father feel like limiting our mileage (money is not a huge factor)? None of our driving is mileage which can be easily shaved off. Why can't my father just tell us, instead of getting sly and sneaky and buying a crap car to limit our driving?
