I think I put about 3k miles a year on my car. I go to school/work 3.5 miles from home.

Miles are not as important as how the car is taken care of. I have seen cars with over 300K.

So keep maintaince up and don't worry about the rolling numbers on the dash.

lets see...my '92 Civic has 190k miles...which comes out to 17,xxx miles/yr. 15k/yr doesnt seem like much to fuss over really.

Thats nothing. A friend of mine works for a company that repairs cement equipment throughout Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He put 89,000 miles on his truck in 1.5 years in a job that wasnt even based around driving. Personally, I averaged 10k-12k miles/year when I had a car. I lived only 2 miles from work and 4 miles from my HS, so most of my driving was trips and stuff.

they say an average car puts 12k - 15k miles / year.... that was a few years ago for that average... but it cant be that much different... when selling a car as used you take a mileage deduction for anything over like 10k miles / year... so like if you had a 2000 s10 with 40k miles on it it would be docked some money for having over 30k miles.. but if you didnt drive it for a year and next year tried to sell it the truck wouldnt take hardly any mileage deduction

What you could do is just drive the car and whatever extra miles you put on you pay when your lease is up and choose the option lease to own so at the end of you like the car you can buy it

We're glad you joined and hope you continue to post, but please be aware that this thread was last replied to more than 16 years ago and any problems that were happenIng then have hopefully been resolved.

Yeah, we do 12-15K a year. If you live in a 'burbs you can't really get around it.

I love that people go through registering an account for a post like that guys, on decades+ old threads. LOL

I just looked at my Fuelio gas log and it looks like I did about 13,051 miles, from Oct. 2018 - Oct. 2019. Good to know; I honestly had really not much of an idea of how much I drove.

Backhanded brag thread about how many miles people drive. Sitting in a car is awful.

Since I retired, I had a hard time justifying an oil change once a year based solely on mileage...until we bought the F-150 last April. I've put over 26,000 miles on it in...18 months.

That comes up to 24,000 km. That does seem like a lot for a single year. in 4 years you would break 100,000. I just bought a 2009 truck and it's at a bit over 98,000. Mind you that is considered lowish for a 10 year old vehicle, but in my search most of the vehicles in that age range were not that much past 100. Only a few were in the 200k range.

I put around 960 a year just going to and from work. I love my commute :)
