Don't you know?

Earth is moving to a free economy. Work for free, what else are you going to do?

This shut down would be over in a day if government employees all refused to go to work until Trump administration pays them for it.

It would appear that it's not just the IRS that cheeto is ORDERING back to work:

fuck that lard ass. Forcing work without pay is slavery and is against the law. Hope they sue the hell out of his administration and win. Fucking douchebags.
Yeah the courts already told unpaid workers to go fuck themselves earlier today.

I think if the court system was failing me and I was told I had to work without pay I would see if I can find a sympathetic doctor who is willing to say that the additional stress of not being payed is enough that I need to be on stress leave until the situation is resolved. If you have insurance benefits covering that sort of thing and they haven't lapsed you might even be able to get payed and not show up rather than showing up and not getting payed.

If they're in the non-essential "Furloughed" batch of employees, can they be compelled to work without pay? If not, I would urge them all to stay home. Working for free only serves to take the pressure off of congress to do their jobs.

You cannot legally make someone "work for free" - so please stop stating as such. Anyone that legally performs any work MUST be compensated. They might not have to compensate them immediately until funds are figured out - but they MUST be compensated.

So basically he admitted to ignoring the consititution to get the result he wanted.
Another case of the Judicial branch saving the legislative branch from doing their jobs. The Judicial branch should uphold the constitution. Can you just imagine a federal judge ruling 150 years ago that blacks should be forced to work without pay because even though it is a violation of the 13th amendment, their not doing work suddenly would put a strain on the country?

Only essential employees are required to work without pay. Non-essential employees are under no such obligation and the IRS employees are classified as non-essential. It will be interesting to see how many of that 46,000 IRS employees show up as ordered by Hair Furor. I'm really hoping that this shutdown continues through the Super Bowl weekend. Feces are going to hit the fan when the additional TSA employees needed are unable to pay their own way to Atlanta (plus their room and board). I feel sorry for the people out of work and not getting paid but...

Orangemandias has put his hand on the hot stove burner and he's refusing to remove it unless he gets his wall. I've written my reps (both Democrats) and told them that my family backs Pelosi and absolutely no wall. To give in now would be rewarding them for what they are doing to our government and its workers. That the Republicans have been flirting with shutdowns long enough and it's time that they learn a lesson about putting their hands on a hot stove burner.

Let it burn.

Phone rings: "Hello?"
IRS Supervisor: "Congratulations! You're coming back to work!!"
Employee: "I just saw on the news that nothing had changed.."
IRS Supervisor:: "Nothing has changed. You'll be working for free."
Employee:" Sorry I'm having really bad reception, I'm in the Swiss Alps, call me when there's a change."

Click;
All problems solved.

One of the reasons people work is to pay bills. Explain to the mortgage company why they can't get their money. Effectively it is working for free.

What are people going to do when after 6 months their houses go under foreclosure? They can't get unemployment because they are "technically still "working". Nobody will hire them because they will leave as soon as govt opens.

Your concern is misplaced

In surely unrelated news, job websites have noted a major increase in accounting resumes being submitted.*

*Fact made up. I just know I would be looking if I was in their position.

Many think this would be good, that we are draining the swamp...but it really means that for every qualified person that leaves you replace them with a new person that lacks the training. The Air Traffic controllers are still hurting after the mass firing in the 80s. We all get poorer service in the end.

I would go though my terms of employment and find some small misdeed that would get me suspended without pay for a couple of weeks!

Have to say, I am pretty impressed with what I've been hearing from people that I know who are affected, which so far has been a collection of friends and a sister in law. They are not enjoying this at all. Stress levels are through the roof, but every single one of them told me (paraphrasing for brevity) 'I'll make it, they just better not cave in to the traitorous hostage taker.' So damn proud of them.

Time for another round of grocery gift cards.

I believe the positions get changed from non-essential to essential. The problem is that every position is essential at some point. I was called back to work this week which is a little frustrating. I was considering filling for unemployment but now that's not possible.

I'm sure these employee's landlords, mortgage companies, utilities are perfectly fine with this argument as well.

Essential and non-essential is also spelled out in their contracts. While they can be reclassified they can also sue the government over it. Besides that, it doesn't matter if they are essential if they don't have money to eat, keep a roof over their heads and gas in the tank. I would be very surprised if they are broke, in debt and keep showing up to a job that isn't handing out paychecks. At that point it's time to quit and find a new job.

That's where the forcing them to work without pay falls apart.
