I'm trying to figure where I'll go see it that won't be absolutely crammed.

I already bought my ticket for 9:10 on Thursday night! :) It's the only one that I could find a seat up in the middle of the balcony's front row. I was tempted to see if the 3D was any good for this movie, but the theater appears to only be showing it in 3D on Thursday as a marathon.

Just saw the movie with my family (wife and 2 daughters). We all enjoyed it. The downside to seeing it in Shanghai was no subtitles for the parts in Mandarin, so I missed a little bit of the story.

It was quite entertaining.

3D was not really worth it - nothing I remember that made me wish I paid the extra.

Thanks for the review.

A lot of people are saying the initial bad reviews of the movie are due to the humor not translating well to other languages. Wonder if that's true?

I'm definitely going to see it, just haven't decided where. There is a Drive-In about an hour from where I live, half tempted to go old school and check it out there. I haven't been to a Drive-In in about 20 years I think.

A friend of mine in Korea (released yesterday) said it was awful.

I'm not particularly holding my breath. IM1 was amazing. IM2 was a fan-service blah. Same goes for Avengers.

do most foreign countries watch it in english or do they dub?

I'll see it opening weekend at the drive-in. 2movies for 6 bucks, and$9 large pizzas.

The problem I have with DriveThru's now is that they're all located just in the middle of no where and they have just grass field parking and the ones I've been to recently care nothing about color balance and focus or cleaning their screens.

I can take out in the middle of nowhere. I can even take the grass field parking lot. But piling all of that on top of dirty screens and poor focus just ticks me off. Every time I go to the drive in it just makes me want to start my own drive in. With paved parking spots and screens that are repainted every couple of months and cleaned every week and with hookers.

Still, the one closest to me is doing IM3 this weekend with Oz. I'd prefer IM3 to be the late movie, but I'm guessing they're expecting a lot of people to just watch IM3 and leave. I still haven't seen Oz yet and for $10 a car load and we bring our own food, it's not a bad deal.

Don't see a movie you want to see at a drive-in. Trust me on this. Wait for some crappy Adam Sandler movie if you want to try a drive-in.

Is there a reason why large, Hollywood blockbusters like this have been releasing overseas a week or more ahead of their United States release?
Marketing. It allows them to court favor in foreign markets by saying that "we hosted our WORLD PREMIER in YOUR country!". It also allows them to increase sales in that market by touting "see the WORLD PREMIER this weekend in YOUR neighborhood theater!". It is unnecessary to do this in the US since the US is the home market and studios enjoy the benefit of home market support here without having to do anything other than produce the movie here.

Space reserved for review. Seeing it tonight at 9pm.

Ok, saw it. This movie was a little overwhelming during some of the action scenes (way over the top and unrealistic on par with Avengers but what do you expect?) but overall a very good effort - I'd give it an emphatic 8/10. The dialogue, while freaking funny as hell, seemed a little too unnatural with the non-stop witty one-liners. They could tone it down a bit to make the characters more realistic.

I was really hoping for them to stick to the canon more and you'll see what I mean about a certain villain twist, but I could see how things could backfire in a Green Lantern cheesewhiz way.

One disappointment was only 1 stinger after the credits. Allegedly the studio didn't resign RDJ yet (this summer his contract expires) so they couldn't show the rumored "Tony Stark in space in Guardians of the Galaxy" scene yet. However, during the movie
they talked about Tony's past and that he wanted to explore space when he was younger
. Can't wait to see him in GotG, assuming he gets re-signed!

Will be seeing it Saturday - local theater has like 20 showings.

3D or not 3D? That is the question.

Somewhat enjoyable but completely forgettable. Start was weak with the poor setup and RDJ's improvised ADHD ramblings. I don't think it's particular interesting to watch him filterless and scatterbrained, and the dialogue approached cringe-worthy and awkward. I must say Whedon's Iron Man is still the best.
However the actions scenes kicked off the film proper and were pretty cool and I enjoyed the Mandarin. The Nemesis Killian as I said, were pretty underdeveloped, but the enemy design looked cool and felt like a real challenge compared to Iron Man.

Sitting at 79% on rotten tomatoes atm. I find it intriguing that it started out at 95% and sat there for a while before gradually tumbling down as the weeks passed. I guess it's true what they say about Hollywood. They look at what critics raved enthusiastically at similar films (iron man 2 for example) and go out of their way to roll out the red carpet and extend invitations to them for private screenings well in advance of release, with the hope that they rate it similarly well. That temporarily inflates the general score on meta critic sites like rotten tomatoes that helps to generate the pre-release buzz for the all important opening weekend, where a films ultimate final gross is largely based off of.

I just got back from seeing it in IMAX 3D. I liked it better than 2 but not nearly as much as 1.

Let me say this, Marvel has never failed to disappoint me when it comes to Iron Man and their villains. Yet again, in Iron Man 3, the villain is just not compelling at all.

Also, I was rather disappointed that they let this one scene go by without a comment from Tony.
During the scene where Tony is fighting the female and male Extremis people outside the bar, the woman takes off her jacket. I really wanted Tony to say, "Normally, I'd get pretty excited when a woman starts taking off her clothes, but you... can leave them on." or perhaps, "This might be the only time in my life when I'd say this, but you can leave your clothes on!"

Yet again, I think I need to offer my services to Hollywood as a Script-Make-Gooder-er. :colbert:

Just got back from the 9:30 showing and like others have said it's better then the 2nd but not as good as the 1st.

I also agree the villains were rather odd, some beyond super powered and others kinda pathetic.

I don't see why they didn't go with the mandarin as a actual villain more so but suppose magic is not as big a thing compared to tech / biological stuff like they did.

On a side note the red headed glowy chick, Stephanie Szostak, was hot.

FYI for those that are going to see it make sure you stick around for a extra clip.

It's really not hard to be better than the second. :p The second one also had potential with them focusing on Tony's drinking, which is pretty much his #1 vice throughout his entire comic career. Hell, it's a big part of the comic story arc that IGN voted #1 in their Iron Man arcs: Demon in a Bottle. The problem is that they tried to pass his drinking off as comedy rather than drama, and it just fell flat.

I also agree the villains were rather odd, some beyond super powered and others kinda pathetic.

Their take on The Mandarin was definitely strange, and now I know why Jeremy Jahns said that half the people in the theater (the comic book nerds) would hate the movie at that point. I'm not peeved by it since Marvel loves to "reinvent" their heroes and villains all the time anyway.

I thought the biggest problem was that the villains seemed like throwaways. It's not that they were powerful or weak, but we didn't have much of a reason to hate them. Kill some random oil executive (who's actually from a company that exists in the Iron Man comics)... whoop-de-doo! They should just steal the plot line of The Civil War sometime, but just imagine what would happen if they did that? The whole even starts when Nitro blows up a school... and kills something like 500 people (including children). Yeah... that's Sandy Hook + Boston, and I can't imagine Marvel doing that one for a few years. The thing is though... when a dastardly act hits home for us, that's when it pulls us in because it begins to tug at your emotions.

FYI for those that are going to see it make sure you stick around for a extra clip.

It was... interesting. :p But maybe it means that
we may see more of Bruce Banner in the future? I know he doesn't have a movie planned yet.
