<< I use mIRC 6.
BTW, why not come join us on #teamanandtech at the irc.teamanandtech.com server. Not quite as busy as the other servers, but still it's a fun place to be in the evening when the action starts. 🙂 >>
How many people are usually in that channel during the weekday evenings?
Which ATers are regs there? >>
Im there very occassionally (following 2+ different irc servers and countless channels gets tiring), but usually when Im there there isnt much going on. Im there now and its pretty dead. >>
i have never really found a decent computer related irc channel. maybe i will drop by 🙂
oh and for the original first few posters who wanted to get to know how to use irc, there are some basic commands, (you dont need a gui for this, it's simple stuff)
/server irc.servername.org (connects you to an irc server. for efnet, i use irc.lightning.net or irc.prison.net, for undernet, arlington.va.us.undernet.org)
/nick BBWFooey (this sets your nick, or your name, nickname, ah you get it 😛)
/join #channel (channels start with a #)
/list (lists the channels, you can do a search for example "/list *poop*" would find any channel w/ poop in the name. use wildcards just like file searches)
/me is hungry (onscreen this would print "BBWFooey is hungry")
/part #channel (leave a channel)
of course theres a million other commands but those are the main ones to start off with. i use bitchx in linux, and bitchx or mirc in windows. bitchx kinda has this buggy-freezy-uppy thing where it locks up then when you click on it, it like floods your window with text as it reconnects, quite annoying but i found a way around it. i figured i'd try the new mirc cus they FINALLY made it able to connect to multiple servers. after using bx for so long, mirc's colors are kinda ugly...you cant make the people's nicks a different color or anything. oh well.
i like bitchx tho, cus its real simple if you're an irc simpleton like me, but its also real advanced for the elitist irc freaks. xchat is also another for linux, it's gui based, so its similar to mirc...i tried it out, but really didnt like it.
anyways good luck 🙂
