Did anyone see the Iraqi UN Ambassador on nightline last night? If the stakes weren't so high it would be funny!!

This whole situation is way beyond "bad comedy". We are at a crossroads here. Disregard the UN and begin the bombing campaign followed quickly by a rapid land assult. Whoever is with us, great. Or continue to let the UN drag this out day after day, week after week,......

It was said last night that there were some in the Bush cabinet who were dead set against the President going to the UN, and agreeing to 1441, that it would get VERY MESSY. Guess they were right!

The earlier post about this whole situation switching from anti-war to anti-US is true. We need to either act decisively ALONE, or withdraw the troops and concentrate on ridding our country of any sembalance of threats (insert ACLU outrage here) and stop ALL aid to other countries. Emotions speaking I know, but what kind of relationship can we have with the rest of the world if we do this alone?

:(

Please just stop posting..

If you can't realize what is really going on, then i don't know what to tell you.

Iraq agreed.. They shouldn't get to set guidlines... They are the problem and are hiding something..

Don't you just love it when bombs just happen to be "found"

Is this because Iraq had a say in something that bugs you and that they got what they want? It seems that this really bothers you as you have said that you are trying to stay civil.

Well, I won't be civil: you are an asshat!

Well then buddy, you are talking out of your ass yourself.

I respect Skoorb though. He gave me a very valid answer.
EDIT - Sorry Skoorb, got your name wrong.

Why does that seem that they have something to hide. Its not like they stopped all planes. They said no more than one. So whats the big deal.

I will try to remain civil ...

Please provide a GOOD Reason why Iraq should be allowed to LIMIT the number of planes.

No need to be civil. zoiks is an idiot or ignorant fool. End of discussion.

You really are an asshat. If you don't know what is going on with Iraq and the UN you should shut the f@ck up. What are you 12 or something? What Skoorb said is very well known and most well educated people know this. You come in here trying to start a flamewar and you have accomplished your goal.

He gave you many valid answers, yet you still argued with him. I don't mind debating the issue, I love it in fact, but the facts are the facts and you refuse to see them.

Gosh, that kind of amuses me that I can say things normally and that you are getting all bent out of shape.
If you dont have anything to say that logical then maybe you shouldnt be putting other people down.

It's much easier to hide things from one plane than it is two, or three, or four, etc..... It's also because Iraq is not in any position to impose their will on the U.N. inspection team. They lost that right when they lost the Gulf War.

U-2 = "hostile"??? WTF? The whole war is really pissing me off now. Its becoming clearer and clearer that there is NO "Right" side and no "Wrong" side to this whole debacle.

FACT: America jumped the gun on condemning Iraq a YEAR AND A HALF ago. That was when CNN etc. broke the news that there were plans to go to war in Iraq over failure to meet UN resolutions. We made our intentions clear without building a case first...and lost the credibility of the world because of it. GWB couldn't keep his hawkish defense buddies in check and made us look like a bunch of war-hungry Klingons. Bush himself comes off like an arrogant asshole on television whenever he comes on at primetime. He looks tired and drained. I seriously doubt he'll last into a second term even if he does get reelected in '04. Hey Republicans: whatever happened to 'America First'? The economy is still lagging and we want to commit billions of dollars to a massive war effort...correction...we've already SPENT billions of dollars on a war which hasn't happened yet!

FACT: France, Germany and Russia have all been trading around the embargos set after the '91 Gulf War. They've been profiting from trade with Saddam's regime. I don't really blame Russia: they are developing regional ties frankly their economy isn't doing so well and they need favorable trade with anyone. Germany I don't understand. The French really do suck...at first I didn't think so but now it looks like their true skin (or lack of) is showing. This European isolationism is really funny. Before it was just each country trying to maximize profit for itself. Europe got progressive with institutions like the European Union and the International Court, INTERPOL etc...but they still can't see the world for what it is outside of Europe. I almost think that France and Germany view Iraq in an imperialistic manner: they are profiting from trade with this 'colony state' so obviously nothing is wrong with the regime there...and they will do anything to keep that regime in place as long as it is profitable.

FACT: The growing numbers of anti-war protests have become increasingly less anti-war and increasingly more anti-America. Even within this great nation itself we've seen protesters destroying 9/11 memorials! This really pains me. Even the liberals (who I usually side with) are viewing this war as a great excuse to express their hatred of our government and of American capitalism in general. These are the same asshats who go out and protest the WTO coming to town. Great. So you don't want war, and you don't want peaceful fair trade either? We want to punish countries like China for human rights violations, but when it comes time to dole out punishment to Iraq, you no longer support us? Stop smoking that pot and get a life.

EDIT: How could I forget?

FACT: Iraq has weapons of mass destruction somewhere. Saddam is an evil man. Saddam's sons are evil. Saddam's whole regime is evil. But the Iraqi people are "a poor, suffering lot with little food and shelter, and they are merely afraid of what could happen if they rose up against Saddam and his fearsome Republican Guard". Oh please, give me a fscking break! IMHO, if Iraq really wanted regime change, they would have tried and failed once or twice already since the Gulf War. Guess what?? They never tried!! Are we really advancing democratic ideals by doing the dirty work for them, then just handing back the country saying "here, cut up some paper strips with some names on them and have an election"?? The best way to win support of this war is to have the Iraqi people fight it themselves. The fact that they are unwilling to do this just proves that whether or not the US wins the war, overall it will be a failure. The Baath Party and Baath ideals will always rule Iraq.

VERY well said. Hurrah!

I agree with most of your post except for this. Haven't the Kurds and the Sheits tried to remove Saddam and failed? That is why the no fly zones were established, to stop Saddam from wiping them out.

In a side note, upon hearing the news of Iraqi complaints about the U-2 flights, France immediately petitioned for surrender, but was gently reminded by other UN members that Iraq was not threatening hostilities and it could save its surrender for a later date.

The US going to the UN rest soley on Colon Powells shoulders. Rumsfeild, Cheney, etc did not want to go to the UN because they knew this would happen.

I hope they vote tomorrow and France vetos so we can start dropping bombs Saturday, and get this finished by May or sooner.

Problem is that Kurds and Shiites are a minority in Iraq. Of course the Kurds have their own reasons for wanting a new government (considering Saddam wanted to wage a genocide campaign against them.) But they are only strong in the north. What I was referring to was a movement led by the masses, the urbanites in Baghdad and other cities. Where's Iraq's Tiannamen Square? You think all the bleeding hearts would be against this war if there was a student uprising and Saddam's army slaughtered them all? They'd be screaming bloody murder!

Geez he should just change his name to Sodumb!

(ok that was a horrible joke and a little inappropriate because the situation is so serious, however I think everyone in this thread should take a deep breath and count to 10).

*edit* I agree it's ridiculous that Saddam did this, and that the UN allowed it.
