WE'RE out of our minds if we believe movie plot bullshit about Iran. All this tough talk sounds ridiculous when you realize that it's assuming that somehow the Iranian leadership hasn't noticed that they are dramatically over-matched in terms of every possible kind of power. Iran is definitely a concern in some respects, but people who are treating Iran as our new mortal enemy sound really silly, IMO.

I think Iran striking at US is a remote chance, but then again it's pretty hard to imagine that they would remove people from government service for sorcery. Never say never.

Iran is not some medieval kingdom inhabited by sorcerers and sorceror catchers, the regime is pragmatic and calculating much like China minus the external show of Muslim piety. Bob Baer has written about how Iran must be seen as a military dictatorship and not some nation of fools to understand what they want.

Iran is not a military dictatorship by any stretch of the imagination. It is a theocracy. The Iranian President has absolutely no power to command the military, only the ruling Clerics can do that.

Bob Baer's assessment is becoming more mainstream if not the mainstream view. Years back when he yakked about a coup in Iran he got some polite yawns. The ruling clerics do not have as much control as we think they do at the moment.

It amazes American foreign policy continually gets hijacked towards the Middle East. Despite being economically broke, attempts are made to suck the U.S. into another possible war, supporting on ideological/religious grounds a country that doesn't provide great economic benefit, and based on nebulous fears created by propaganda. Frankly, it's a gross misallocation of resources that should be spent making the U.S. more economically competitive with East Asia.

Let's also remember that Iran's military is a joke and they are half way around the world.

This all does scream of McCarthyism, it's the new red under the bed. It's a fvcking sad sight to watch actually.

It's funny that the stronger a nation is, the more security it demands.

How did the US ever make it when it wasn't the strongest nation in the world?

Because our fore-fathers believed this nation was blessed by a god and worked their asses off to make it the strongest on the planet. Now that we have reached that goal we do nothing but head straight toward our own demise by squandering what was given us.

This steady drumbeats from all parts of the this country to war with Iran is frightening because we spend little time thinking of the ramifications. It appears we have learned very little from the last 10 years.

Not buying it. This wreaks of propaganda. Remember the fear mongering during the year leading up to the Iraq war? The nightly news had story's about either Iraq or Saddam Hussein every single night. I got to the point where I was sick of hearing about it. The media was very effective at getting the general public whipped up into a frenzy in support of military action in Iraq. Looks like they're gearing up for this again.

As George W. Bush once said, "Fool me once - SHAME ON YOU! Fool me twice... er... um... WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN!"

I don't want to alarm anyone, but I was down by Washington Square two days ago and not only did I see people taking pictures, but it was an ENTIRE BUSLOAD OF THEM. The Iranians have put so many agents in the US that they have had to resort to mass transit in order to keep their bills down.

We are truly doomed.
