Iran would 'consider' using oil as weapon against US over Israel

<< the environmental problem is long term. Any company which tries to solve the problem without public request will die, as already stated. Hence, we need regulations to solve problems. That is unless of course you dont consider air pollutants a major problem, whereby please continue living in your world. I guess if you didn't want to do regulations, then you have to change the public by educating them about issues, real issues not ones like Alaska. Like recycling or conserving water which has worked? not sure about the water issue. >>

Again, forcing the market through regulations wont be nearly as effective as developing a product the people really want to use. With the lack of innovation and ideas, tyrannies use regulations to force people to act in acceptable ways... but it backfires big time. Instead of acting like a mommy and declaring how people should act, why not develop something that will make them WANT to act that way?

must resist..must resist.. Damn it, that was funny 🙂

<< Story here.

This could end up being a replay of the gas shortages of the 70's if actually implemented...especially if the other muslim oil-producers get in on the act. Can't wait.

What specifically are you referring to? The last bit of blather from Indonesia's Minister of Justice and Human Rights?

"Competition among these countries is quite high. Also it is not easy to reach consensus in OPEC about oil prices. What more the use of oil as a weapon? I think it is quite impossible."

Riiiiiiiiight. Like most of the countries that make up OPEC wouldn't jump at the chance to f*ck us over via oil in the name of Palestine. We freak out when gas hits $1.50, what the hell is going to happen if one or more of the OPEC nations cut us of completely? Or did you not read the rest of the thread?

Hahah good luck getting people to give up their SUVs and other gas guzzlers. What would probably happen if Iran stopped selling oil to the US it would result in a price increase. Gas could shoot up to over $2 a gallon and shortages would occur. People who drive fuel efficent would feel the immediate effect less as they would only need between 1/2 and 1/3 the fuel of a suv to go the same distance. However a fuel shortage and price increase's effect would have long reaching effect. Everything that needs oil or gas to operate would see an increase. Just about everything we spend money on would go up in cost...

What happens to OPEC if they stop supplying oil? THEY HAVE ZERO INCOME! Those countries have NO other industry other then oil. They stop selling, they stop having money come in. Those ARABS can't even get along with each other. I would guess the chance of them cutting off their income and coming together to do it are probably non existent. Will be nice when we are not dependant on their oil. Then the world can go back to giving a rats ass about ARABS! If it wasn't for oil, they would still be screwing their camels and eating sand!

Using oil as a weapon is just talk. The oil producing countries depend completely on oil income to sustain their economies. If they don't sell their oil, where are they going to get the money to buy food from? Maybe they will have their people eat sand and drink vanilla flavored oil. Another thing. Suppose they do stop selling oil to the west. That will definitely put our economy in a huge recession. What do you think that will do to the global economy? They may like it or not, but the Islamic nations are still a part of the global economy and a slump in the global economy will hurt them real bad. The Saudis have a ton of money invested in American and other western companies. They stand to loose a lot of investements if the US goes into a deep recession. I don't think the Saudi kings and princes are in any hurry to scale back their opulent lifestyles for the sake of some Palestenians or Iraqis. Do you really think they care about anyone but themselves?

Two things. OPEC can't control prices anymore. Everytime they try to raise prices they have to beg Russia to go along with the plan because Russia accounts for so much production. Even if Iran does cut of supply Saudi has the ability to completely make up for the lost demand that Iran would cause and since Saudi doesn't support the idea their likely participation in it is highly unlikely.
