Iran would 'consider' using oil as weapon against US over Israel

Story here.

This could end up being a replay of the gas shortages of the 70's if actually implemented...especially if the other muslim oil-producers get in on the act. Can't wait.

The US would 'consider' using bullets and cruise missiles against Iran over oil

Iran will need to get many other oil producers to follow suit. I think there's too much competition out there for it to happen.

LOL. I like that. 🙂

We defintely need to start establishing closer ties with Russian. I do think they would pick up the slack, they don't exactly get along with OPEC.

EDIT: Actually this might indeed be interesting when you consider OPECs non-Arab member. A split in OPEC would be like a dream come true. 🙂

The US only gets ~13% of its oil from the middle east. F**k em. They need to sell it more than we need to buy it since they have no other economy to speak of.

Hahaha.. Iran should consider how to act civilized instead of like a bunch of wild eyed Palestinean primates.

DRILL AT HOME!!! DRILL AT HOME!!! DRILL AT HOME!!!

Just keep repeating that until the Enviro-Nazis run off crying and hug a tree.

No need to establish closer ties. They need $$$ and will sell us plenty of oil. Only problem is I don't think they are as efficient as the Saudis as far as distribution goes. Years of Communism will do that.

Here's the rub with Russia. The oil production there is not government controlled. So regardless of whether we in bed with the Russia governement, the production is in the hands of the Russian business leaders. This could be good or bad, it just makes it a bit more unpredictible imho.

So then a nice fat bribe or arms shipment would work? 😀

We should we have a double standard, why does America have a god-given right to place emargos on numerous countries and kill millions indirectly? Is that any better than Iran putting on oil restrictions ?

Drilling at home is a stopgap at best, IIRC even the most generous of estimates don't say more than a few years worth of oil are available. Is it really worth the impact on the environment for such a relatively small amount of oil? Decreasing demand would do a lot more good in the long run than drilling in Alaska.

Because we can.

I'd much rather have my money going into the Russian economy than to Iran, Iraq and the Saudis. Hopefully the Russian oil men will reinvest it into modernizing their oil production and delivery facilities, and other Russian ventures to revitalize their economy and create jobs.

Heh, you'd have never heard me say this 15 years ago 🙂

How about we do both? Sounds like a good idea to me.

Higher oil prices will simply drive us towards alternate sources of oil. It's a sure bet, when they went to 35 a barrel a while ago big money started to push into other markets. At those prices renewables and even ethanol become cost effective so if they really wanna push us to end our dependence on oil then raise to prices. After we end our dependence on oil the middle east will become a blip in the history of the world. They will be forced to return to their nomadic roots and desperate proverty because they have no industry, no capital and no real value to provide the rest of the world.

I know this is mean but... I can't wait for that to happen. Unfortunately, it wont any time soon. Even if the US becomes non-dependant on ME oil, most third world countries will still be buying it for decades.

I hate giving the envro-nazis ideas BUT remember the commercials the gov't put out about drugs and terrorism? The same thing can be said about oil from the Middle East.

If you drive a car, you could be supporting terrorism.

True enough. It's not as though technology that uses alternate energy sources is going to trickle down very quickly. And when it does, it'll probably still be cost prohibitive.

Sure, but getting people and corporations to conserve is like pulling teeth....it always degenerates into an argument that the gov't has no right to tell them what kind of cars to drive, etc. The sad fact is that we're going to have to face this sooner or later and we might as well get on with it. The added benefit is no longer having to deal with sh*t like this threat from Iran. I think it sucks that other nations can attempt to shape our foreign policy by dangling the oil carrot in front of us.:|
