When politics is kept out of the area; common sense works fine.

Everyone can work together to get rid of the pirates.

It would have been nice for the pirates to have been captured; but at least they were foiled.

Iran's navy said Thursday it saved an American-flagged cargo ship that was being attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Oman.
An Iranian warship responded to a distress signal from the US-flagged Maersk Texas, a cargo ship of 150 metres (500 feet) and 14,000 tonnes, which was besieged by "several pirate boats," the navy said in a statement reported by the official IRNA news agency.
The cargo vessel "was saved by the navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran" on Wednesday, IRNA added.
The pirates "fled the scene as soon as they spotted the presence" of the warship. Maersk Texas "thanked the Iranian navy and sailed towards its destination safely," it added.
It was the first time the Iranian navy protected a US ship from pirates.
Maersk had sailed from the UAE port of Fujairah, south of the Strait Hormuz at the entrance of the Gulf, and was headed for the United States.
Iran's navy keeps a presence in Gulf of Oman to protect cargo ships and transiting oil tankers and also defend the country against potential threats.
According to Iranian commanders, Iran's navy have carried out hundreds of anti-piracy operations, engaging in hundreds of armed clashes with pirates in the past three years.
The US navy patrolling the area have on a number of occasions rescued Iranian ships. The latest incident was in January when a US warship secured the release of 13 Iranian fishermen near the entrance to the Gulf who had been held captive by pirates for 45 days.

Americans by and large are very nice people.

Iranians by and large are very nice people.

It seems all the posturing poop-heads float to the top and have poop wars with each other.

I'm not surprised that this happened. The Iranian navy is actually quite professional, unlike their Revolutionary Guard types. Both the US and Iran have a common interest here in keeping shipping lanes free from that type of nonsense...

Fuck em, if they won't arm American flagged ships why the fuck should I care about the jerks. The should have a full complement of missiles and automatic weapons on every U.S. flagged vessel.

Apparently, not everybody realizes you're the world authority on American Flag Ships.

I think that there is some maritime law that prevents heavy weapons on merchant vessels.

The posturing is whether religious whackjobs should have nuclear weapons or not.

Who are you talking about?

Americans don't think Iran should have nukes?

or

Iranians don't think Israel should have nukes?

It's all poop heads throwing poop at each other about which one has a bigger poop machine.

This seems to be a point taken out of ignorance. Maritime law prevents cargo ships from carrying large arms.

"Large arms" or "heavy weapons" aren't shoulder mounted missiles or personal machine guns. I'll give the prior posters the benefit of the doubt about their ignorance of the difference between small arms and large arms when on board ships.

Again I get to ask why the fuck should i care if U.S. flagged vessels aren't doing what they can to defend themselves?

Caring is a visible manifestation of empathy. You can't really ask why the fuck you don't care if you don't actually care. You either feel empathy and are human or you don't as a sociopath would not. Naturally, because you do ask, you are in a state of denial as to your humanity. You feel but you do not what to because you think feeling makes you weak. What it actually does is make you human and alive.

Right you just think all this is a joke. One person has nukes, let's have everyone get nukes. Can you eat radioactive poo?

I wonder If pirates had attacked the Maersk Texas vessel, would Iran have blamed for it?

Fortunately, it did not happen. So maybe this decision was considered. All they don't want at this moment is a diplomatic incident. Or maybe it wasn't even thought. I don't know how large vested interests are in this case. But it doesn't matter anyway.

Anyway, gladly everything happened in the best way possible and the Iran's navy did their duty regardless the flagship of the boat. (Would they act same if the boat were Israeli? I wanna think that yes).

Hopefully the Iranian crew won't get punished for this.

Oh, please. Such aspersions are completely unwarranted. Modern communications probably allowed their actions at a high level, and they scored a propaganda coup in the process. There's nothing not to like in the outcome.

All countries should be doing target practice on all pirates all the time.

You wouldn't still have pirates in 2012 if they were doing this.
