I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the thing or is that the way they all are, but the volume I am getting out of my IPod is too low. When using the FM transmitter, I have to crank up the car stereo volume which causes a lot of static. The unit volume is usually at 50-75%, higher and I get distortion. Noted that the ear bud volume isn't that great either. Eventually need to get a new unit but since I purchased a lot of music from itunes I guess I'll need to stick with IPod, Damn DRM.

i love my ipod. volume thing could be the firmware, there's a hack for it out there- volume hack. although i'm guessing its more of a fault if you don't even get decent volume from your earbuds.
Don't support APPLE's DRM.
There's a wide selection of Playsforsure players if you want to buy your music and be free to choose your player.

you could try this if you are unhappy with iPods but like iTunes: it's called Hymn and it removes the apple DRM. don't share it cause your name is in the file but this will let you use the songs you buy on iTunes with any player. i OTOH have an ipod mini and love it. if it too low, try opening it and see if the headphone pins are connected. that are send it to Paulson for repair.
Have you used the E series? What exactly does the Ipod do better? Does the ipod do video? How about have a miniSD slot for expansion. FM radio? Voice Recorder? Just curious why you think the ipod is better...
I will say that I don't use, nor will I ever use any of the music services, so I could care less about compatibility with the various services...

Yes, I have a e250. I do not like the buttons or the wheel on the Sandisk. Perhaps I am use to using the iPod, but I don't like the e250's menus either
.The miniSD slot is a nice feature, and I thought I really would like a FM tuner. I never use it. If anything, I would like an AM tuner. Go figure...
I have no use for a voice recorder either. Most of my music is ripped from my own CDs, and the rest is unprotected. I do use iTunes and really do like using it too...
Don't ever use an FM transmitter... most head units have inputs and you can have someone install an rca to 1/8th inch adapter and hook your iPod or any mp3 player you may have directly to your head unit....
(my head unit has a 1/8th inch plug right on the front of it so that makes it really easy and it sounds soooooooooooooooooo much better!)

Fair enough. I looked at both and the Sandisk seemed to be the better player for my needs. It was a birthday present anyhow, so it was free.
Also, the firmware has been improved as well. I haven't used the ipod menus, but I do hear they are more polished...and the ipod pwns when it comes to accessories...

Right now i have a iPod mini, the e250, and a iPod shuffle.
I use the shuffle the most, as I just use it for podcast listening in my truck...

hmm, if i use my 5G ipod with my brothers monster ipod charger/fm transmitter...volume is basically "disabled" in the ipod and you use the cars volume to turn it up. works fine for me.
if i use the tape adapter with my ipod, i just set it to 50% and it sounds fine in the car, again using the car's volume.

Exactly, and we know that 95% of people here don't have a downloaded iTunes collection and if they do, it's like 10 songs or fewer, not 3000 (like their ipod collection), so the complaints about Apple's DRM is stupid.
Give me something so small, so sleek, and so easy to use. Scroll/click wheel ftw.
I'd say the Sansa E series fits that bill too....not knocking the ipod.
I sorta don't understand the whole itunes thing personally. I mean, I can if you have a crap load of itunes songs, like you mentioned, by why would you want to get music from a service that forces you to have to play them on a certain piece of hardware, or not use the music you bought at all. I mean, what if down the line there is a much better MP3 player you want, but it's not an ipod, so all your music would be useless at that point no?
I'm glad I mainly listen to mixes, and they are free to download without any DRM and completely legal..
