Apple lists the changes only as 'bug fixes', so its likely that there are no new features with this one other than stability and speed.

TO GET THE SOFTWARE UPDATE: Plug in your iPhone and load iTunes (or allow iTunes to automatically load if set to). Click on the iPhone icon on the left list and select 'Check for software update' on the main screen.

i'm downloading the update right now and is it just me or is the download speeds really slow by apple standards? could it be that everyone is trying to download it right now? at this rate. . . this update is gonna take hours considering the backing up and installation of the update.

My new place doesn't have internet yet so I will have to wait until Wednesday....:(

Btw, this Apple Remote is so slick. Walking around my place and having music following me is one thing...
Actually being able control it all from a touchscreen remote...

Holy 5@&#! :Q*

* The e-gazam had always eluded me until now...

How do you accomplish this? Is your PC hooked directly to your HT?

So until 15 minutes ago, it was still stuck. So i pulled the iPhone off, force quit iTunes, plugged it back in and tried again. This time it finished in 10 minutes :)

So, it downloaded and then tried to update and now I have a bricked phone, w00t. I has that screen with the usb cable pointing to the itunes logo. This is an un-jailbroken 3G iPhone.

Any suggestions? I'm not really freaking out, but it would be nice to have a working phone.

I plug it in, Windows gives me 3 "bongs" and then it tries to install drivers, which I don't have.

Mine took about 10 mins to install. It then got stuck on the plug into itunes home screen. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it seemed to do the trick. the keyboard sms lag seems to be gone and the apps do seem to launch quicker. i still have to see if safari quits when i try to quote someone on here.

edit: yep safari still quits when I try to quote someone on here. thats so annoying!!!

I had the exact same problem. I used iTunes to restore it.

Put your phone in DFU mode and restore it with the new firmware.

More stable, but not 100% stable. I was still able to crash my iPhone within 5 minutes. However, that was by running 3rd party software.

This download was a waste of time. It did nothing to address the 3G issues.

What are your 3G issues? 3G works fine for me in terms of reliability, but it really shortens battery life.

Note, I'm in Toronto, and the 3G support here seems to be pretty good. Is your local area well-supported for 3G?

What 3G issues? Here in Orlando the wife and I have no issues with 3G on our iPhones.

My issues with 3G are that the phone rarely keeps a steady 3G signal. Just sitting here at my desk, I can watch the signal go from 5 down to 1 bar, without moving, or touching the thing.

When I'm at work, I have 5 bars of 3G when I leave my car. It turns into 5 bars of edge, once I enter the building to go into the cafeteria. I can't get 3G there at all, which pisses me off to no end, because my co worker can with his blackjack. He gets a full 3G signal. He's on at&t too, so I know it's not a network issue.

I'm not alone either. There's a thread on the Apple forums that I've been following, here. It's happening to people all over, not just those on at&t.

EDIT: My coworker has a Blackjack, not a Blackberry.
