But if you turn off location tracking, the iPhone won't record your location will it?

Everything I've seen lacks detail. It just say your phone tracks where you are. How is this different from say Google Latitude? Ok, you're not asked on the iPhone, but WHAT exactly is done?

Does it do a location based on location services every 30 minutes? Or what does it do? It obviously doesn't do it THAT often otherwise battery life would be horrendous.

Any phone can be tracked to a general area without the need for GPS because of tower triangulation. Obviously it won't be as precise but they can still track you.

Well I'm pretty sure this is what's used because with GPS you would kill battery life, but even with cell tower triangulation, it has to be a timed method. Every x seconds ping supl.google.com for a location, etc. But even pinging a location server will slowly mess your battery life up. So obviously it's not like every 10 minutes. Possibly every hour or two. Dunno.

How has anyone given up privacy when the information in question resides on OUR phones and, if it is not encrypted, on OUR computers?

Have we also given up our privacy by having our addressbook on OUR phones and OUR computers? How about our e-mail? Our surfing history?

It is sad how easy some people jump to the conclusion that one's privacy has been affected in any way whatsoever.

Last I saw Apple has admitted that the information is uploaded to apple every 12 hours. So much for "no privacy given up", and yet another example of how stupid people are to just willingly give up their privacy.

Please point to where it is said that the information that Apple uploads is the same document that was recently discovered to exist on iPhones.
