Pretty sure my co-worker is literally mad at me because I don't want an iPhone.

I have a Blackberry 9700. It's the second one I've had, I upgraded from the 9000.

He asked me what reasons I could possibly have for not wanting to "upgrade" to an iPhone.

I gave him my 4 personal reasons. He only thought #4 was valid.

- I like my keyboard and don't care for touch screens
- I don't care much for Apple. I do have an iPod, but Apple annoys me for some reason
- I get sentimental and attached to inanimate objects like phones
- my monthly bill for my bb is less than $50 and with the iPhone it would be 80

Do people really get angry at others for not wanting an iPhone? 0_0

I love having a physical keyboard on my phone and will hang onto that feature for as long as possible. I once in a while get crap from iPhone owners who say "Who needs a keyboard anyways, it's just useless hardware when you have a touch screen"

Meh, I still have my Razr, I don't even have a need for a smartphone. I spend the whole day around computers, I want less technology in my pocket. I also don't want to get emails on my phone, my phone is for talking.

I rank that right up there with Facebook bewilderment.
"But WHY don't you have a Facebook account?"

I think its only your coworker who gets angry. Honestly if you're not using your BB for BBM, email, work, and security I would get a different smartphone instead. It doesn't have to be an iPhone since you don't like Apple.

There's Android and WP7 phones and some of them with keyboards too. If you're paying for a data plan you might as well use it to its full extent on a media driven phone.

Whats funny is that I know a person who still uses a BB Storm because she has a sentimental attachment to it. I don't think that's really a good reason to keep a phone unless you're ok with sticking with the same thing as technology advances.

There's some good advice here, but people are focusing on the technology and overlooking the human aspect of this dilemma.

You are not validating him enough. Perhaps you should think over what it means to have a friend. You should remember that he lets you put your penis in his mouth, and has trombone skills that would make Glen Miller jealous. Maybe you should give a little too? After all, an iPhone is not so bad.

Do you need more than 32GB of storage on a phone? What the hell for?

I was completely happy with my 3G and 3GS touchscreen keyboard until the 4.x update which completely screwed over the way older devices keyboards function. Apple halfway crippling the old device then taking 6-12 months to fix it is what will cause me to never purchase an apple phone again.

wow, so many iphone owners are morons. I have an iphone4 but a physical keyboard would be heaven. Or at least software where I could add words to the dictionary.

I don't understand why he refuses to accept your opinion. Though i probably would have avoided the I dislike apple part because that probably made it personal if they're in the cult.

This would make you a perfect apple customer, if only your attachment was to their products :p

Yes they do. Met a guy at a party once, he asked me what kind of phone I sported, showed him an old sony ericsson I had at the time. He asks me which phone I'd like to have if I could afford anything, I said my shitty phone was alright. He takes his iphone out of his pocket and starts talking about its awesomeness, then he asks me if I'd like to have one of those. I tell him about apple's appstore shenanigans, restrictive environment, overcharging...he interrupts me and says "prick", then turns around and goes to talk to other people :awe:

The iPhone is a piece of shit. I have owned every generation of them so far, and the iPhone 4 will be the last.

Between the antenna issue, the "no sim" issue, the dropped/completely missed calls, i've had enough. Apple can kiss my pale white ass. Android here I come.

If you don't want a different smartphone then there isn't going to be a smartphone that'll change your mind even if it granted you three wishes. It has nothing to do with owning an iPhone.

You can upgrade storage on any Android device and change its battery. Android devices have keyboards and does internet/twitter several times better than your BB. It also has BBM like apps such as kik, ping chat, whatsapp. The only draw of your BB is email and its only advantageous if its work email.

If BB is what you like, then that's what you like. I'm just telling you that if you're not heavily entrenched in email, there are other smartphones out there that runs circles around BBs.

i have 110 gigs of music and i HAVE to have it with me at all times

There isn't a phone in existence that could hold your collection. Unless you're carrying around 32gb cards around with you.

You're a dumbphone user and that guy was a smartphone user. If you're happy with a dumbphone it doesn't matter if Apple has a restrictive environment or not, you're still not gonna own a smartphone. Because if you did own one, you would have an Android, WM, RIM, etc. smartphone.

You know Melty that BB is like owning a Commodore 64 and saying there's no need to upgrade :)

I'm not saying to buy an iPhone, but there's some nice phones out there that are really cool.

I just got an EVO and really like it. My e-penis is 4.3 inches diagonal :D

I'd definitely check out other smartphones :)

I just really don't see the specific draw of the iPhone. Other than the cult :D

I love this thread

3gs and I are inseparable. I previously hated most phones, preferring those with a real KB for at least texting to be easier (damn I hated abc def texting) My wife had a 3g and moved to a 4. Her mother and her both have IP4's and facetime all night long like schoolgirls. Her mother is not a spring chicken, and previously hated all phones.

I also think your #1-3 are weak, 4 is a real concern, but in our case, with 3 iphones on the family plan it turned out cheaper than 3 diff companies and plans.

Moose is right on - Sure you don't need to upgrade, because upgrading is pointless. BB reached the end of its innovative life 5 years back. Its a dead platform.

Cliffs: 2 unlikely people are converts over here.
