iPhone - over 500,000 units sold

I say I wish I had spent $2k on iPhone's instead of PS3's.

I would have made a lot more $$$ off of Apple than Sony.

That doesn't make it a quality product.

I bet at least half of those ended up on ebay.

What about all of the positive reviews, that point out short comings but call it the best mobile web experience, etc. etc.? All mac zealots, even at PC MAG?

no one denied it wouldn't sell like hotcakes...let's see 1-2 months down the line with people dropping it, bad reception, etc.

I still maintain that it's an inferior product. The only two things that these sales figures prove is: a) A typical Mac user is a sheeple who buys whatever Jobs tells them to buy. For proof look no further then Apple's own tech support page dedicated to iPhone and read the questions/comments people post there. Basically, most of them had no idea what they where buying and what it does/does not do. b) eBay will account for at least 50% of any (if at all) shortages.

FYI we've been using our two test iPhones pretty much constantly since activating them on Friday (for phone use, not as much for media) and one still had two bars as of this morning (not sure about the other one). Battery life is "pretty f**king good" to quote one of my coworkers.

 that is pretty good for att....think about it

each iphone has a $79.99/mo plan with a 2 year contract

79.99*24~$2000/iphone in 2 years

$2000*525000=$1.05B just for the iphone itself.

That's a pretty good 3 day sale for any vendor

So, the people who were positive it would bomb...
The PS3 had a great launch too

Coincedentally, it also launched at the $499/$599 price point.

are there any corporate email push options yet?

Over half the ads on Craiglist Electronics section are Iphones. I wonder how many will return it when they can't sell it for a profit then go in shock when they get hit with 10% restocking fee. Nevertheless I still like the phone but not for that price.

that is when the good reviews come out.

is it just me or does it seem like apple put absolutely no thought on the iphone docking base?

the phone is a sleek, black, chrome, glossy, sexy looking thing and it sits on a nasty white base....looks tacky as heck. is it too much to paint the thing black or silver?

I bought one to use & try out AT&T service. Unfortunately the cellar service wasn't that great so its going back.

I got it on Saturday night and didn't charge it after activating. It lasted browsing both EDGE and WiFi and talking on the phone for 30 mins WHILE browsing WiFi. The usage indicator stated I pulled down 26 megs over EDGE. I finally charged it Sunday night.

Syncing contacts and calendars from my Mac was seamless, so was adding video and music (though, no iphone-as-disk, manual manage music mode) was a snap.

The keyboard took about 2 hours to get used to and then was a non-issue.

The reason I hesitate is to see if Apple stays true to its word of offering software updates for better functionality (Safari crashed 10 times minimum). I don't like paying to be a beta tester, especially with subpar (compared to sprint) cellular service.

All in all I'll say that its a solid device, definitely NOT a smartphone, but a step up from the standard flip.

Not that I know of. The keyboard so far has been decent, however I'm confused as to why the messaging apps (txt and email) are forced to use the keyboard in portrait mode, while the web browser can use the wider keyboard in landscape mode.

Nobody (here anyways) cares about using it for corporate email though. This is a consumer device, plain and simple. That said, it really is a groundbreaking device and its gonna set the bar for the next generation of smartphones. Seriously, whenever Photon debuts, I don't think any carrier will shop a device with less than 600mhz cpu, 720x480 res, 128mb RAM, 4gb flash storage, and touch input.

i thought there was a cheaper plan, like $60?
also, as others said, most of those phones probably hit or will be hitting Ebay, so I doubt they bought a contract. either way you look at it its a waste of money.

I should clarify that I don't work for corporate IT, I work for a competing carrier! So we have iPhones for "intelligence-gathering" purposes only! 😛
