I don't think I can get excited for this unless Apple has seriously stepped up their game. Palm's Pre looks to be an amazing device so it's somewhat obvious they are trying to steal some of Palm's thunder.

The rumor for the next iPhone hardware release has been June/July for a while at any rate.

The Palm Pre is pretty amazing...I have a hard time seeing what Apple is going to release in their hardware update other than a 32 gig model and perhaps a better camera. They need a consistent platform to develop on, so it's got to have a similar screen and hardware features.

Edit: Actually a Pico Projector would be cool, like this phone:

I really didn't see 3.0 coming this soon. Granted, we don't know when it will be released but I would imagine Apple is trying to avoid releasing the next gen iPhone and iPhone OS 3.0 at the same time.

I'm pretty disappointed that we have to wait for another MAJOR OS release to get basic functionality like MMS. I love my iPhone to death but this is ridiculous.

At some point, Apple is going to replace the iPhone 3G's processor (S5L8900) with the one from the iPod Touch (S5L8720), or some later variation thereof. The 8720 is underclocked just like the 8900, but presumably it can run at a higher clockspeed than the 8900 at the power envelope Apple wants.

I'm not sure what else they could put in there though. Maybe a new GPU, but that may not happen since it creates a 3rd hardware variant (the iPod Touch 2G being the other variant).

got awesome cut+paste & MMS support since I jailbroke, all I wanna see is A2DP & landscape use of the keyboard across the board. Maybe I suck but I can't find an app on Cydia that lets me use the keyboard in landscape for all apps regardless if they support it or not.

I'd really like Landscape Mail view...

what apps are you using for mms and cut/paste?

So.... what are we getting in this version? Cut and Paste? MMS support? A wide screen keyboard for SMS messaging and E-Mail? Flash support (with an on/off switch, please!)? Some crap that most people don't even want but got put in anyway because a content partner requested it?

Pretty much all the stuff that was going to be added to 1.0 but then we had to wait for 2.0 and now apparently 3.0. LOL.

Except for Flash.

Flash is the only that would excite me. Then again, I'd would be totally useless at work, because I'd be watching Hulu all of the time.😱

I finally jailbreak, and they're gearing up to release another major revision... I wonder if it's going to break all the native apps like 2.0 did. Honestly, I'd be surprised if whatever they add is compelling enough to get me to upgrade before all my shiny new jailbreak apps are ported.

I'm assuming this will be when they finally release push for apps or whatever they're calling it, which would be a nice addition I guess. Backgrounder works for some stuff, sort of, but doesn't quite cut it.

hclipboard works great for me.

This is what I've been using. Clippy seemed to work but had a weird glitch that prevented me from using iSSH. hclipboard has been great.

i'd like to see landscape keyboard, multiple apps, and flash (tho the last two probably would need iphone 3.0 hardware). and all of it on the ipod touch since i refuse to be forced into a data plan. and a real keyboard too, heh.

though, I might just go w/ the palm pre. very tempting, as data on sprint is far cheaper with the family plan. no doubt this is why apple is pushing 3.0 out sooner than later.

I'm curious to see what they add and if they'd rollout 3.0 with the release of the new iphone iteration in june/july like they did last year. I remember the upgrade/activation of all the new iphone 3Gs was a nightmare on Apple and ATT's networks so perhaps this year they'll separate the releases to ease the load on their servers. I don't think there is anything Apple can do this year to match the significant upgrades 1.x was to 2.x. The app store and SDK were huge upgrades whereas this iteration may be marginal upgrades at best. Not a whole lot to be excited about imo/

I'm curious about a new Touch, 64 gigs? A2DP? I think my touch has about 5 months before the battery starts to stop holding a charge. I'd rather get a new one than get the battery replaced. 3g Touch with more goodness would be awesome.

the 3.0 update better be free, or at least cheap. I'll pay the $10 I did for 2.0 if I have to. But I want new features. How about letting me edit any playlist directly on my Touch, and add multiple songs with some sort of check box next to them thing. The current method of making a on-the-go playlist on a Touch/iPhone is tedious if you want to add more than 3 songs lol. Also let me edit any list not just the on-the-go one 🙁

Well, you're assuming the 2nd Gen touch is going to even be able to RUN 0S 3.0. I have a 2G touch and I love it, but knowing apple they're going to do something to make 3.0 incompatible with current-gen touches. I know the 2G touch has a faster processor but it's still basically the exact same thing as a 1G.

I guess I just don't see Apple not forcing an upgrade after 2 generations of a product, ESPECIALLY not in the realm of cell phones, which is like computers on crack in terms of quick obsolescence.

Well if it's that much more powerful I'll get one. While my Touch is by far the most responsive device I've own, there still is room for improvement speed wise. If 3.0 is worthy of needing a new device to run it then so be it. I would like 64 gigs of space any how and I'm sure the 3g Touch will have a 64 gig model.

You guys are forgetting about background apps! That should be a welcomed addition to many apps.

Maybe I am missing something, but why the hell does a person want cut and paste? I can understand some scenarios, but I couldn't give a crap really.

Still no SMS or MMS support, I doubt push will be added...what a load of crap this phone is turning out to be as more and more time passes.

Hell, I'd be +++++++happy if they would allow you to choose a different sound for email notifications without having to jailbreak the damned thing. Even that seems to be a problem for Apple.

Ironically enough, I care about Cut and Paste, but couldn't give two shits about MMS (The iPhone has had SMS support from the first gen, not sure what your referring to when you say it doesn't). Push works with Mobile Me and Exchange, where else would you like to see it implemented?
