Abandonware indeed! I went back and double checked my daily apps and the latest one updated was netflix Dec of 2014, some last updated as far back as 2013. Are these "official" apps, or some developer apps that tie into the intended system? Even YouTube hasn't been updated as of 10/2013 according to this: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/youtube/dcbb1ac6-a89a-df11-a490-00237de2db9e

This really does change the field ..... more food for thought. thanks.

It's funny though. The main bitch for a long time was that WP had no apps, no 3rd party dev support, etc.

Then that started filling in, and especially in the case of some of the 1st party scenarios, doing so even better.

NOW the bitch is things like "Instagram is still in beta", when 6tag blows any official client away. Or myTube and MetroTube which smoke official YT apps.

Hell, I have an app for my thermostat, I think it's up around version 1.14? now and only launched this summer...and it's 3rd party through the official API and individual app PIN access method.

And I'm a pessimist regarding the long term viability of WP.

Personally, depending on how T-Mo rolls now with plans/phones/contracts/etc (I haven't been paying attention enough), I think you could look into just buying yourself a used WP and playing with it on T-Mo for a bit. Then if you have to, buy the iPhone, not like investment will disappear overnight.

Bit older, but a Lumia 925 would be inexpensive and still viable. Only real downside to it is the 16GB of storage.

There's a worldwide Lumia 1520 the 1520.3 that works with T-Mobile. I have my eyes on it. Hate the lack of apps on WP, but I'm sick of Android and bored with iOS.

Good luck finding one of those for a reasonable price. I believe Microsoft killed off production of that phone, so you're going to be hard pressed to find it. If you check Swappa, there's one on there every so often, but it usually ranges from $375 and up.

I had an AT&T version of the 1520, and it was a fantastic device. I get bored with things relatively quickly, so I jumped back to Android. Boy, do I miss the fluidity that WP brought me. With all of these massive memory leaks Lollipop brought to the N5, it is insane to think that Microsoft pushes out an OS that works on the cheapest of phones all the way to the most expensive.

It's not expensive considering it's a full priced off contract phone. They're $650 on Ebay which makes it cheaper than an iPhone 6s or Note 4 off contract. Not exactly cheap yeah, but the AT&T one would max out at 3g or whatever speed. I might jump on an unlocked AT&T one, I don't use the internet much on my phone not on wifi anywho.

I've had a Nokia 920 for years now. I don't really need a new phone, but I want one. And Microsoft doesn't even have a new flagship phone on the horizon. It's really making me think about jumping ship to an iPhone 6 or 6+.

Not sure why but my Nokia 1020 is showing "Denim" when I go to the "extras + info" page. I thought Denim wasn't released in North America yet?

That is a display bug.

Verizon finally released 8.1U1+Denim (they skipped cyan) for 928 and 822, icon still waiting.

Maybe you keep it in your pocket too much and your jeans rubbed of on it. :sneaky:

I have an 822 on Verizon and love it... I don't use many apps but the Nokia drive and maps are great. They also update the stuff I use quite often- like the camera app. Even on a mid-range phone like the 822, the camera is excellent. No bank app (Wells Fargo) but I don't think I'd want it on there anyways. You can probably find a nice 822 pretty cheap on ebay. It has some nice features like micro sd, replaceable battery, etc.

I was in the same boat a few months ago, except with a 928. I went ahead and got an iPhone 6+. Two months later, and I'm ready to go back to WP. Microsoft really hit a sweet spot on the UI and operating system. I think the only app I really miss on WP is Target's cartwheel.

Hrmm... Yeah I like Xbox Music (I came from the Zune HD world) and I don't have any major problems with Windows Phone. Most of the app shortfalls have been bridged quite well by third parties at this point. But it's annoying to see my bank come out with an Apple Pay app within a month of the iPhone release, meanwhile they don't even make an app for Windows Phone and my phone has had NFC\touchpay capabilities for years...

There are a number of reasons why Apple Pay is getting the fast track while Windows Phone's feature doesn't get much love.

Market share and Apple's financial clout play large parts, but they're not the only factors. Apple Pay is a built-in, end-to-end system; you don't need to download an app or get a special SIM card to make it work. It not only got a fair amount of official support early on, it actually worked with NFC payment terminals that weren't part of the rollout.

I should note that Android has a similar problem. Mobile payments have always struggled whenever you allow for any significant fragmentation. If people don't know for sure that they can make payments, they won't. The only real uncertainty with Apple Pay is the variety of stores onboard... and that's something that everyone would face.

Sorry if this is off topic, but does the new moto x have the same multi tasking issues as the moto g?

There is a wells Fargo app.

Thanks... I hadn't checked in a while.
BTW, Verizon finally rolled out 8.1 for my 822 and I installed it last night. Pretty nice. It's like a whole new phone. Lots of new features and pretty much all of my apps were updated and reinstalled.

Since switching to my Nokia 1520 full time I haven't had a single issue with a critical or even useful missing WP app. Sure, some of the apps are 3rd party but they work.
