iPhone 5s same screen size?

And just to add an example, I still haven't found a VNC or RDP client as easy to use as iTeleport on iOS and that shit cost me $25 in 2008. The fact that you would say "the best apps are free" as an absolute rule is simply ridiculous.

Free apps aren't always the best but they are sometimes.

Google maps and navigation is pretty good , teamviewer is free for home use and that's a pretty good remote desktop app.
 
I have a hard time deciding how much I like the iPhone 5 screen. On the one hand, I love the form factor of the phone. It's a really good size in my opinion because it fits in my pockets, including my running shorts, and it feels good in the hand. On the other hand, I like bigger screens when I'm using the phone for anything other than phone calls.

So my preferences require a new "dimensional rip" feature in smartphones where they are small until you need a big screen and then they get bigger.
 
Apple doesn't push the envelope. The next gen iPhone is almost certainly going to be physically identical to the iP5. Same body, same screen, same low resolution.

I don't have 3-inch thumbs. Sometimes find it even hard to reach the opposite top and bottom corners of the screen on the iP5. I don't want a larger screen. In fact if the make the next iPhone larger than 4.3, I will probably just stay with the iP5.

So please, let's not generalize on "what the public wants".

The public has spoken and sales show it's what they want.
 
ancedotal from a nexus 4 user: i can easily "one hand" an iphone 5, with each hand, and ensure full screen coverage while having a firm girp on the phone.
if i want a solid grip on the nexus 4, I have to deal with a much more limited range of screen accessibility.

I don't see what the issue is about he resolution? I understand its not true HD, but when I compare my wife's S3 and my iPhone 5, the resolution is the last thing that grabs my attention in terms of image quality? In fact, i notice the S3's poor color calibration and its larger size.

It has high pixel density due to the tiny screen size, but even the iP5 falls short of 2012's standard 720p resolution. And its using the kooky 3:2 aspect ratio to maintain backwards compatibility with previous models. Pretty much all tier 1 Android phones in 2013 will be sporting 1080p screens, leaving Apple even further behind in terms of both resolution and pixel density. This is not a good situation for Apple to be in, especially as their stock price has lost half its value in only a year, and as Samsung and Google continue to out-innovate, outspec, and outsell them. Long term, very bad.

Edit - I find it ironic that when the iPhone 4 was released with its 960x640 resolution screen, and the marketing term 'Retina' entered the common lexicon, the word around all the tech blogs and 99% of all MD&G posters here was 'resolution, resolution, resolution, Android needs higher resolutions!'. Now even midrange Android phones have resolutions that outstrip Apple's flagship, with the high end 1080p devices doubling Apple's resolution and PPI. Course now, we hear 'It doesn't matter!' from the Apple camp. Sad really, but not uncommon. Happens whenever an iDevice launches with something.

The colors people always complain about are from SAMOLED tech, the colors are more saturated. This gives them better vibrancy and pop, movies and pictures look better. Annoys people who are used to the older LCD tech though.

I am shopping for a new phone currently and the iPhone 5 screen is much too small for me. I am thinking I will get a GSIII or a note II before I get an iPhone.

really? the public gets what is popular. they get flagship models. if no android manufacturer made phones larger than the iPhone would they still be as popular? probably.

Unless Samsung made something outrageously large or small, people will still flock to the Galaxy. Same with Apple. Sales don't mean anything. It only means how good your marketing is.
 
I personally don't like the big phones coming out either. The Mega line Samsung just announced makes me laugh. I know everyone is different but I just don't want a phone that has trouble getting in and out of my pocket.

I always laugh when I see people whip out their Samsung Note, which literally looks like a notepad and it's so big that they have to use two hands and a pen.

That's not a phone. You're just too cheap to buy a phone and a tablet.

Oh dear lord. Low resolution? Get a grip. Yes there is higher out there, but it's hardly noticeable, and quite frankly if you care about screen density you should be praising Apple day and night - the Android manufacturers seemed perfectly happy to push 480p after 480p device until Apple decided to come up with some ridiculous branding for high resolution and push everyone else to get better. Like or hate the iPhone, it is thanks to Apple that you have 1080p Android devices today.

Yep - while there is certainly a market for large screens, there is a market for smaller screens as well, and right now there's really only two flagship devices in the 4.3 and under space - the iPhone 5 and the BlackBerry Z10.

And to the OP, if screen size is important to you, you should probably be planning the move to Android now. There's absolutely no guarantee that Apple is going to enter the size arms race.

What crap. More like constantly improving manufacturing processes since the LCD was invented allowed both Apple and competitors to have better screens. Or did Apple cause PDAs to increase in resolution as time went on (before the iPhone) too? Now, Apple has massive, enormous buying power so they are able to get things first because they'll partially finance the increased operations. But to say they did it single-handedly is ridiculously foolish

Yeah I've been eying the Z10, but it's got some bugs right now. Has potential though!
