It's pushing some impressive numbers and I can say it translates to the real world. My iPhone 5 is damn fast. Apple's engineering team did a great job on the A6.
 
The Intl SGS3 is a 1.4Ghz Exynos 4412, quad core. Thats not exactly a thumping there. It will be interesting to see the results from the 1.6Ghz Exynos 4412 in the Note 2 as well.

A6 completely walks all over every other phone in the GLBench tests though, however, not all of those charts have the numbers from the Optimus G preview, the S4 Pro/Adreno 320 performance.

The S4 Pro and Adreno 320 perform very well, and on pre-release software too.

The A6 is an impressive CPU, but not much more than the 6 month old Snapdragon S4. And the GPU, an SGX543MP3, is powerful, but clearly in last generations hardware. The real battleground is going to be in Q4/Q1-2013 when S4Pro/320 devices are more common, OMAP5/Rogue, Exynos5/Mali6xx, and possible Tegra 4 show up in the market.

And Samsung did a world-class job fabbing it for them.

It's absurd how much Apple depends on Samsung. Could you imagine handing your biggest competitor the designs of your newest, in-house SoC so they could manufacture it for you? I'm betting Samsung's Exynos team got a free peek.

Since Apple strayed from a straight A15 design, there are likely many special custom bits on the A6 that certain eyes would love to sneak a peek at.

Why do people ignore that Samsung Mobile is a completely separate subdivision from Samsung Foundries? Samsung corporate might care about Apple's lawsuits, but why would the fabbing side care? Apple is most likely a good customer with TONS of repeat business. Although, that's just my guesstimate!

I wonder if we'll see a newer GPU in the next iPad? If they want to increase GPU capability to keep up with other devices, they may need to!

Their relationship is winding down, and Apple has already moved other major components away from Samsung (such as iPhone 5 displays). Unfortunately for Apple, TMSC didn't want to sign any exclusivity deals. With Qualcomm already using a lot of TMSC's available production capacity, that doesn't leave Apple a lot of options besides Samsung.

Apple may be a good customer, but Samsung Mobile is ready to pick up any slack left by Apple's departure. Samsung is already selling twice as many smartphones as Apple per quarter, and that disparity will likely increase.

While I'm sure the Exynos team likely learned some things from the A6 design, those are some hard patents. They wouldn't be patents on rectangles and rounded edges.

Wonder if Apple will hit up GloFo or IBM on their 'common' 22nm production platform?

I only worked it photolithography and it almost drove me insane.

What I'm saying is that Samsung did not engineer the A6, Apple did. It's quite hilarious how people try to down play the A6.

"Oh, um well Apple didn't make the A6, Samsung did!"

Give me a break!

Apple was the one that spent half a billion dollars and several years on the A6.

I do sometimes. However, I prefer going there when I get a tweet about something new; however, Twitter keeps unfollowing Anandtech on me for some strange reason. The only time I ever get Anandtech news is when Anand posts it (it doesn't unfollow him).
 
Damn.. blows every phone out of the water in performance and probably battery life.

I think I'll have to get rid of my Nexus for one.

Just as how Apple "designed" the A4 and A5 that was based on the ARM Cortex-A8 and ARM Cortex-A9 + PowerVR GPU.

Yes, the A6 is still an ARM based chip.😉

Well, it's come full circle... I guess I should point out that Apple was one of the companies that founded ARM.
