On previous CMDA world phones it was common for the GSM to be unlocked for overseas use but AT&T and T-Mobile sims wouldn't work. That may be the case here as well.

Right so if they neuter 850/1900, you actually can't really use it in Canada and a lot of LATAM countries also. Include Thailand and Australia too into the mix. Yuck.

Wonder why they didn't throw the myTouch 4G Slide in there with it's "Zero Shutter Lag" claims. :hmm:

I have one, BTW. It's immensely fast to take pictures.

Edit:
Quick launch from phone lockscreen would be nice, maybe ICS?

You can launch the camera (or any other app) from the lockscreen in Android via the WidgetLocker app.

Newer HTC phones with dedicated camera buttons launch directly into the camera app from screen off by holding down the camera shutter button.

I would like to point out, that despite the iP4s not being what the people wants, it presold a million phones in 24 hours.

The most, by Apple or any manufacturer, ever.

People only come online to complain, typically. I only know one person who was actually disappointed with the phone because of the screen size, but he had read into the rumors and hype. I already pre-ordered mine, after having a WP7 device since it's release and using an Android device for a few months.

Not hating, but those reports are not telling the truth.

The iphone 4 sold 600,000 on ATT alone when it was released.
This year the iphone 4s only sold 1 million on 3 carriers? That's less per carrier.
Take that into account.

You realize the iPhone 4 was a global launch as well...

And the iPhone 4S isn't just on 3 carriers.

Take into account that pre-orders sold out. Who knows how many more could have been sold if there were supplies?

Everyone is saying how the iPhone 4S is a fail and that there is no demand. There is evidence, as Pliablemoose stated, that the demand is higher than ever and pre-sell rates for the iPhone 4S is phenomenal. Which is true.

So the question is what is untrue about what Pliablemoose, or the report, said? Yes, there is less being sold per carrier but overall the demand is higher than it's ever been as evidenced by the pre-sell rates. But that's not what Pliablemoose, or the report, is saying. Your are arguing something completely different from what he said.

At least I think that's a good sign. :)

People do want the iPhone 4S.... However I don't believe that tells us anything, other than there are ALOT of people out there who believe in the Apple brand.

IMO the sales numbers are high because of the delayed launch... there were a lot of people out there holding out for the "next" iPhone for a while now and the floodgates have opened.

They are not buying the phone because of iOS5, or the dual-core processor, or even Siri. They're buying them because now they can own the newest "iPhone" and they feel they can trust Apple to give them something awesome. And they will be quite happy with their iPhone.

Doesn't mean I'm going to buy one... I want the best device on the market... and for me. That is the GSII...

Wait, what? They pushed 1 million units in 24 hours yet some are saying "lackluster sales"? Haters gonna hate.

Who really cares, buy the phone you want, when you want it. Unless you are Tim Cook or Eric Schmidt, why even bother hating on any phones?

pah, that's madness! Imagine what the world would be like if that happened! Not having a large emotional investment into hating a piece of consumer electronics that's marginally different from the one I own??! hah, unthinkable!

Everyone knew this phone would sell well regardless of how minor of a refresh it was. I don't really know what that says about us as consumers but the pre-order totals don't lie.

That's pretty much what I was thinking as well. Lots of holdout ATT 3GS owners + holdout VZW folks who didn't bite on the 4 when it dropped in anticipation of a 4x or 5 + holdout Sprint people who were just waiting for any iPhone at all to drop.

If I had anything short of a 4 and was out of contract, I would get the 4S.

I have a 4 and am in contract until July, so I will wait.

I'm still running the Samsung Instinct SPH-800M so I may just step up and get one on Sprint. Battery life has kept me away from the newer phones but I think I can live with the Iphones.

Why would the carriers make such a demand on Apple and not do the same to Google? It would be stupid of them not to do so. I seriously doubt that Google somehow negotiated a superior agreement to Apple. More than anything it's probably Apple themselves that just doesn't want tethering on iOS, period. I know you personally can't answer my question since neither of us knows what's in the specific contracts. I seriously doubt that Google negotiated a more superior contract than Apple did. If they did and that explains why there are tethering apps on Android Market, then I say good for them.

Google has a very different arrangement with the carriers than Apple does. Google does profit sharing of advertising income mades off of Android phones with certain Google functions embedded. Plus the phones themselves are much cheaper "retail" and don't have to be as heavily subsidized by dataplans saving more money.

It's in the carriers best interest to push Google phones. But, if you are on Verizon or AT&T your tethering days are getting numbered whichever platform you are on. Don't blame Apple for that now, and I won't blame Google for that later. That's all about penny pinching and controlling access on the carrier's end.

I generally understand your point...But another thing I forgot to mention was that Apple is used everywhere in the world, not just on US carriers.
The carriers in Europe didn't care about tethering when I was there last month, unlike their greedy US counterparts.
I used both Vodaphone and O2 from friends/family members while I was in the UK last month and can vouch for my statement about European carriers not caring about tethering being a fact.
Data is data to them.

If tethering isn't available either natively or at Apple's App store in Europe/Asia as well, then that means it's Apple that is mostly preventing it, and not necessarily the carriers?
US carriers certainly don't have any strange hold on the European or Asian market.

If we can hear from an European iPhone(stock only...not jailbreak) owner here that would be great as it would put both our suspicions to rest.

**EDIT**
I should add that "free tethering" was advertised on the Vodaphone and O2 plans I got to pick from. I didn't have to do any special hidden hack, jailbreaks, or anything like that. They are all freely advertised right there in the contract.
Check their websites.

All I know is that I'm more than a little burned out by the "flavor of the month" release schedule of android phones...
