I'm not surprised this wasn't much... the invites for this thing came out the same day Mango launched. As far as I'm concerned it did the what it was suppose to, take away attention from a competitor’s hype.

I'm buying a used iPhone 4. I certainly wan't an iPhone but I'm not getting into contract for Siri. I've played with my wifes iPhone 4 pretty extensively and I don't see where a dual core is going to be beneficial, other than Siri. With Android, I see the need. With iOS, not so much. Siri and an 8MP camera isn't enough for a contract. Used 4 and hope for better next year.

Siri is exclusive to the 4s?

Yeah, I'm not a tech junkie.
Sometimes I make the mistake of MB/mb, and KB/kb.
Whatever it is, it's complete crap.

There are a lot of Sprint customers here.
I know for sure Zerocool (and now Headcase_Fargone) can validate the crap that is Sprint's 3G network.

It varies by area, I get pretty decent speeds honestly. I just did a speedtest right now. My speed has been getting better over the past few weeks it seems.

Sprint's 3G network sucks ass.
A lot of new iPhone users rushing to come to Sprint because of unlimited data will surely be disappointed.

What iPhone user would leave AT&T's 3G network where they can(or already) get 2-5MB/s and come to Sprint's 3G network to get <500kb/s?
That's moronic.

Typical iPhone users that don't know that and just see "Unlimited Everything $99".

I actually knew a few people that went to Sprint because AT&T treated them so badly (had to call and bitch about every single bill, dropped calls, all sorts of problems) and stuck with Sprint because they were relatively problem free. People don't mind slow speeds as long as they actually have service.

Wow, what a crazy off the wall prediction.

You win the internets.

That's funny because people like you told me how SURE you were that there would be two models.

This made the most sense for Apple. Keep milking the money. Sheeple will still flock to the 4S even if it isn't what some more technical Apple fans were expecting in an IP5.

I like the galaxy S2, but man I would feel dirty purchasing it. They are such an unimaginative, copycat company. They don't innovate at all.

take hard drive, stick a screen on it. call it innovation?

lol, no.

Apple makes old concepts and ideas work really well. that's not innovation.

And now you all know why Apple is trying to sue the shit out of Samsung and going after injunctions. They realized too little too late that they all of a sudden had an "inferior" product in terms of demand far too late in the production cycle. What better way to stay competitive than try to remove the competition... right?

pretty much what I was expecting with the fake leaks of "iPhone 5" a month ago, the ramped-up lawsuits, and the speculation.

I didn't want to say anything before the announcement, but this doesn't surprise me. My guess is that they had to pull the iPhone 5 some time ago to re-engineer and really make it competitive.

big problem for Apple though: departure of Jobs + first major device announcement fail in ~decade.

lol. no way in hell my sgs2 "shutter" delay is close to 2 seconds.

more like 1 second.

Oh, is that what they're talking about? A shutter lag of .5 seconds is slow as snail. At 2 seconds, it may as well be infinite. My Nokia N8 has an almost perceivable shutter lag.

Like I said, you win one free internets. Where shall I send it?

Even a broken clock is right 2 times a day.

The Prime will probably be a plasticky phone too... oh well.

you guys really need to hold these phones before you understand that your "plasticky" criticism is unwarranted. It looks justified on paper, of course, but this is a rather serious piece of engineered material.

I don't doubt that they will all be going this route by the end of next year.

you arent alone i agree with you. all cameras in phones suck

however i might be biased by the fact that i own like $10K in SLR camera equpiment

indeed. but they aren't and never will be comparable to a pro SLR. they compete with point and shoot, and are starting to compete with high-end point and shoot.

I was in the same boat--didn't give a rat's ass about phone cameras, because they were all shit--including the iPhone.

Things have changed this year, though. There is a lot of value, and high demand/use for a well-performing compact camera (point and shoot).

it seems that the current gen of phones have firmly placed themselves in the running.

Not surprising. Perhaps you remember the days of: "digital quality will never replace 35mm!" :colbert: lol--and yes, I was one of those.

(still holds true for film, though--damnit!)

do any of the camera sites do any series review of phone cameras? ive seen lots of iP4 photos and they really dont come close to a decent P&S

Hmm maybe if Jobs was around he would have pushed the team like crazy to really make iPhone 5 happen today.

I, however, am getting tired of my blackberry and may jump ship FINALLY to the iPhone.

Wait until 10/11. If the Prime is going live by the end of Oct, wait. If it isn't (or it isn't revealed on 10/11), then go with the SGS2 (or Bionic if you're like me and want 4G).
My guess is that it goes live on Verizon within a month of the announcement, but not on AT&T for a while. Perhaps -- hopefully -- because it will launch on the Death Star's new LTE.

You want to continue to stay one platform behind the times? 😉

buying this just for the camera. every time i read a review of a new android phone the camera is always crappy
Reread the SGS2 reviews... including in this forum.

Its funny.
All of the fandroids continue to say Apple "fails" yet Apple keeps pushing ahead.

Apple excels at knowing what its customers want.
You can bet that Apple market tested the shit out of different screen sizes and found that their target demographic didn't really care.

The fandroids claim Apple failed because of screen size and exterior redesign while ignoring the significant upgrades at hardware and software.

My sis is an apple fan and she expected something "more" in sure everyone is a little bit underwhelmed today.

Ehh, I've played with other touch screen phones. Apple still has my vote. Just easy to use and now with this camera upgrade makes much more sense. I hated going on vacations / business trips with my blackberry and my hd flip cam and/or digi cam. iPhone covers all the bases.
