pay for the early upgrade, which is a $200 fee. so 16gb for $399, 32gb for $499, at least that's how it was when the 3Gs came out. i imagine it will be the same this time since you're only a year or less into your contract. you need to be 1.5 years in to get the full discount price.

I already posted this in the wwdc thread but wasn't sure if that was the right place for it.

If I bought a 3GS when it came out, what options do I have if I wanna get an iPhone 4 when it's released?

Go look on your at&t account online and see if you are eligible for an upgrade. I would guess you arent, because your contract expires in June of 2011.

Otherwise, I have no idea. I'm not an AT&T customer at the moment.

Can't believe it the same phone Gizmodo found. Would have had more impact without the leak.

So I cant find any information about the iphone dock.

Does it do HDMI out, or is this wishful thinking on my part?

Thanks for the info guys!

Let's say I have an upgradable line (someone else in my family), would I be able get the subsidized phone on their line and use it for myself? Sounds like it wouldn't work since I'd have two lines with subsidized iPhones.

Highly unlikely.

I'm really torn on this new iPhone. Had it been on verizon, it would've allowed me to easily switch between my total geek phone, the Droid and a playtime toy phone, the iPhone 4. I like Android's "open"ness but I still like a lot of the apps that the iOS platform has as well. I had an iPod touch but it drowned in a river and I'm fairly certain the next iPod touch will be out in September with similar styling as the iPhone 4.

Guess I can always wait...

Hmm... :hmm:

10:20 - Zynga's Farmville comes to the iPhone. The first Facebook app that I'm aware of to make the crossover from PC to phone. Now 70 million players can plant and harvest no matter where they are. "Farm anytime, anywhere!" That was grandpa's motto, too. Arriving this month.

He must not be aware of a whole lot then... Bejeweled Blitz is a facebook app and has been apart of iphone's Bejeweled 2 for a while now. I play it a lot actually.

It has a special new output connection called the MagicJack.

And for the low price of $49.99, you can buy a gold-plated MagicJack-to-HDMI cable from Apple.

Screen resolution is about the only cool thing about the phone. Everything else is meh but it's a new iPhone so it doesn't matter how many new features it has or doesn't have, it's going to sell like hotcakes.

Yea, I guess the improved battery, camera, and processor speed are just 'meh.'

I am actually surprised that android fanboys are even admitting the screen looks nice

I'm not huge Apple fan (not a hater either) but can you imagine what the EVO would look like with that pixel density? The pictures I saw next to the EVO, the iPhone screen was noticeably brighter/clearer.

Of course if the EVO had that kind of pixel density, it would pretty much be a 720p screen....

Yea, one can only hope that more and more phones -regardless of screen size- adopt similar high-res screens.

Improved camera from the old iPhone sure if that's all you've experienced but when many other have better it's no big deal. iPhone has always had better battery life than other phones and the processor speed isn't that huge since it didn't need a big jump in processor speed cus it's not sluggish as it is.

And I'm not an Android fanboy, they're just the only viable alternative with some future as WebOS still has no future and don't lock down every part of the OS/Hardware but of course you had to bring in the fanboy into this discussion but I forgot that in the other thread you guys said Apple fanboys aren't as bad cus they never bring up stuff like that. My mistake. This thread was going fine but you guys never cease to amaze. Maybe I did forget about the battery life since it's a huge leap but that's pretty much it.

It definitely looks good but it certainly doesn't "change everything" (then again, what does?). The CPU and camera improvements simply bring it in line with its competition. The two biggest features IMO are the high density screen and the large battery. So few smartphones have good battery life these days I could see this being a major selling point. Video chat is very limited for now but hey, at least the camera is there. Same could be said for the EVO as well. Not great software support for either one but that'll come in time.

I'm not going to shit on this phone because it is definitely a worthy competitor to the best Android phones. That's a good thing if it forces other phone manufacturers to release good hardware. Now I want to see the Samsung Galaxy S, which looks poised to kill everything currently available in terms of raw power. Do we even know which carrier(s) will get it in the US?

Speed vs android 2.2 enable phones?

Tethering lockouts? Simplicity?

Camera optics comparisons would be nice.

Battery life and the new screen are the only things i see that are worthwhile.

It's still AT&T and a closed platform which are enormous drawbacks.

Streaming HD video, Wireless hotspot for 7 devices, HDMI out, and open platform are what sold me on the EVO.

I'd argue for the new form factor... I like it a lot more than the old ones. I'll add the camera, too. Not really because other cameras are pretty good anyway, but Jobs actually went out of his way to explain they didn't just add more MP, but kept the same pixel density on the sensor. A small glimmer of hope that the camera phone will actually replace point and shoots sooner rather than later (for me, it's replaced it for a lot of people already).

And yes, you're right. Apple is a money printing machine right now.

Yup. Think different. By buying stuff from a company larger than Microsoft and Google.

Google Inc.(NasdaqGS: GOOG) Market Cap: 154.63B

Microsoft Corporation(NasdaqGS: MSFT) Market Cap: 221.64B

Apple Inc.(NasdaqGS: AAPL) Market Cap:228.34B

Larger in terms of market cap? Yes. Larger in terms of marketshare? Depends...on desktops and laptops MS still dominates. On phones, Apple is still behind RIMM.

Am I retarded or is the "retina display" just a higher resolution screen?

Pretty much....it is Apple's marketing name.

The one difference is the combination of high res in a small form factor, hence the super high DPI and the claim that it is at the level of detail visible to the retina (~300dpi according to jobs, but i am skeptical)
