Facetime being wifi only is strange and a huge let down. Makes it little more than a novelty item that people may rarely use. However, it can be very useful in certain circumstances, like when your girl wants to know where you are. I'm glad I won't have this phone.
For people with families...being able to video call your kid is a nice plus. However, it being Wifi only is really strange. Now, I'm Chinese and I watch some shows that are Hong Kong based. They show people using video chat on 3G.
Why the F can't AT&T get their crap together to allow this. It definitely is not Apple that is holding this back since it should be relatively trivial for them to code it in to use 3G instead of Wifi.
...I don't care about the extra weight, but I'm a heavy user and it's pretty important that my battery never die on me. That being said, I'd never buy a device that didn't at least give me the OPTION to do stuff like this.
To be fair, there have been battery cases for the iPhone 3G/3GS so I expect similar for the iPhone 4.
I'm still rocking a 1st gen and am now torn between upgrading that or getting an iPad
I had a chance to spend a few minutes, this was at a BBQ at my house, with an iPad running on Wifi. It's a pretty slick device. Definitely was a smoother experience than I expected. That said, I am not in the market for an iPad. I'll be picking up a new laptop soon though.
The iOS name has been licensed from Cisco. The iOS name sucks. How about OSX Mobile? Seriously...
While I have high hopes for a better phone camera I won't get my hopes too high. 5x digital zoom...not impressed. I'd rather have a 2x or 3x optical but this is a phone and there are understandable design limitations. And being a more tech savvy user, I know how to use something like Photoshop to enlarge an image rather than have the camera software do it for me.
The new antenna design by using the metal band around the phone may actually be a huge plus in improving reception. Time will tell how much better it is in receiving phone signals and Wifi.
I think I'm getting this iPhone 4. I am still using an original iPhone which was given to me. It's JB'ed and I'm on T-Mobile. I'd have to switch to AT&T but for some weird reason I get crap reception with T-Mobile in my first floor and basement and backyard. Front door is fine and 2nd floor is fine though. AT&T has better reception in my first floor and basement.
Any iPhone 4 I get will be JB'd to avoid paying tethering charges. What a friggin rip off. Hopefully it'll also allow for the use of the LED flash to double as a flashlight.
If I here one more Steve Jobs "magical" comment, or some other hyperbole, there better be a damned unicorn involved.
