I actually like the new design alot but we all knew what it looked like weeks ago.
Theres really only 3 things left I don't like about the iphone.
- The 3.5" is too small now. I think 4" would be perfect for the iphone.
- The 1 physical button. Give us 3 at least.
- Everyone and their mom has one. I'm one of those people that likes having things differ from others.

There are at least a few phones with pixel densities somewhat approaching the iPhone 4's screen... the Droid, Incredible, and Nexus 1 all have densities in the ~250-260 range. But that huge 300+ PPI resolution should be pretty good for photos and stuff as long as the software is designed to be resolution independent.

Apple seemed sorta pathetic throwing stats out there and desperate by having att letting people upgrade 6 months earlier, having said that the phone is nice.

I think it is just AT&T's conniving...the sooner everyone upgrades the sooner they lock you into the new, more expensive ETF.

As for Apple and the stats....have you ever watched a company presentation before? Apple does it at every 'state of product X' talk...as does Google...as does MS...as does IBM...as does Dominoes Pizza...as does...I think you get the picture here.

Yep to lock people into the newer data rates and ETF. Works perfect for them. God I hate AT&T.

In all fairness, their ETF's are the same -or even lower perhaps- than Verizon's iirc.

Not that two lame pricing policies makes one non-lame pricing policy lol.

Christ on a stick they went from a barely passable camera on the last model to one that looks maybe better that my Canon P&S digital which is only a few years ago. That's some fucking leap in quality they made.

are you kidding? It's meh compared to an average 5 year old point and shoot.
Great for a cell camera though.
Over-sharpened, blurry NR.

Q about preordering:
Will be out of the country until the 29th. If I preorder to an Apple store, will they hold the preorder until I get back?

I thought as long as you already had an old contract you were granfathered in and the new rates only applied to new subscribers?

At any rate, no CDMA no care. That's all the 3G I have around here. The screen is to small with the competition but I would still be tempted if it was on VZW or Sprint.

I'm not a big Apple fan, but this looks like my next phone. Rogers' other touchscreens are crap (Sony X10 and Acer Liquid?), and the new iPhone comes out right when my contract ends.

I like the screen resolution, dual cameras, thin design, battery life, etc. Only thing that's bugging me is I'll have to reinstall iTunes. :( White 16GB for me, let's go Apple, ship these things to Canada quickly.

Facetime being wifi only is strange and a huge let down. Makes it little more than a novelty item that people may rarely use. However, it can be very useful in certain circumstances, like when your girl wants to know where you are. I'm glad I won't have this phone.

For people with families...being able to video call your kid is a nice plus. However, it being Wifi only is really strange. Now, I'm Chinese and I watch some shows that are Hong Kong based. They show people using video chat on 3G.

Why the F can't AT&T get their crap together to allow this. It definitely is not Apple that is holding this back since it should be relatively trivial for them to code it in to use 3G instead of Wifi.

...I don't care about the extra weight, but I'm a heavy user and it's pretty important that my battery never die on me. That being said, I'd never buy a device that didn't at least give me the OPTION to do stuff like this. :)

To be fair, there have been battery cases for the iPhone 3G/3GS so I expect similar for the iPhone 4.

I'm still rocking a 1st gen and am now torn between upgrading that or getting an iPad :(

I had a chance to spend a few minutes, this was at a BBQ at my house, with an iPad running on Wifi. It's a pretty slick device. Definitely was a smoother experience than I expected. That said, I am not in the market for an iPad. I'll be picking up a new laptop soon though.

The iOS name has been licensed from Cisco. The iOS name sucks. How about OSX Mobile? Seriously...

While I have high hopes for a better phone camera I won't get my hopes too high. 5x digital zoom...not impressed. I'd rather have a 2x or 3x optical but this is a phone and there are understandable design limitations. And being a more tech savvy user, I know how to use something like Photoshop to enlarge an image rather than have the camera software do it for me.

The new antenna design by using the metal band around the phone may actually be a huge plus in improving reception. Time will tell how much better it is in receiving phone signals and Wifi.

I think I'm getting this iPhone 4. I am still using an original iPhone which was given to me. It's JB'ed and I'm on T-Mobile. I'd have to switch to AT&T but for some weird reason I get crap reception with T-Mobile in my first floor and basement and backyard. Front door is fine and 2nd floor is fine though. AT&T has better reception in my first floor and basement.

Any iPhone 4 I get will be JB'd to avoid paying tethering charges. What a friggin rip off. Hopefully it'll also allow for the use of the LED flash to double as a flashlight.

If I here one more Steve Jobs "magical" comment, or some other hyperbole, there better be a damned unicorn involved.

Looks like a lot of us first gen iPhoners are finally upgrading. The iPhone 4 is making us do it.

I am a tmobile iPhoner as well, on an unlocked 2G.

The design of this phone is like an art piece. These smartphones are starting to be like watches/timepieces. There are so many features that you need in a smartphone, but the iphone 4 is just beautiful. The antenna integration is pure genius.

It has a special new output connection called the MagicJack.

And for the low price of $49.99, you can buy a gold-plated MagicJack-to-HDMI cable from Apple.

Almost believed that but $49.99 is too cheap for Apple $tuff.

Ugh. I'm on Sprint and have a nice corporate discount. In order for me to move I'd have to pay a hefty sum per month extra (if added up over the course of a year) to consider moving to AT&T. We do get a discount with Verizon... any hopes of seeing this device on Verizon in the next 6 months or so? Or am I relegated to getting an EVO (or the next big thing) in 6 months when my 12-month upgrade period hits?

Not in 6 months. There was some uncovered court documents that suggested Apple is tied to AT&T for at least the next year. There are also a crap ton of rumors about Verizon finally getting the iPhone.

I think that a Verizon iPhone makes sense. However, I think that it won't make sense for Apple to switch to multiple carriers in the USA until Verizon and AT&T updates to LTE (4G wireless). Most of the world will be switching to something similar so Apple can use one base hardware to cover the world using their current strategy of last year's iPhone model as the low end while the newer model is the high end.

Meh, nothing too special IMHO.

Yes it's got some nice upgrades over the 3GS, but it being tied to AT&T kills any "hype" I have with it. I just upgraded and have about a year and 1/2 left on my contract anyways, which means the iPhone 5 will be out with speculation on iPhone 6 will be out.

My 3G is starting to show it's age after a couple years of rough use... I'll most likely upgrade to this as soon as they're jailbroken. That usually doesn't take terribly long though.

i like MOX better :sneaky:

my 2 year old winmo phone has a 5mp cam already in it. samsung makes killer cameras for their phones, the iphone4 is just playing catch up with that spec. hell, the omnia2 had 720p capture last year too. its not the only one either.

i doubt ill be changing to a iphone4 anytime soon unless someone else gives it to me. when my "upgrade" hits in november ill look around at all the new and slightly new phones available and make the choice then. im still pretty positive the ip4 wont be one of the top runners tho.

Larger in terms of market cap? Yes. Larger in terms of marketshare? Depends...on desktops and laptops MS still dominates. On phones, Apple is still behind RIMM.

So if MS makes mousetraps and you buy them, you arent supporting a massive draconian corporation? :p

I was hoping they would add sometime of info system or widgets that you could place on the lock screen. I am very happy with all the new additions they have made but I would have liked something like this;
locka.jpg

I like being able to have a calender and the weather on the lock screen. I like being able to check an SMS or email directly from the lock scree.

Agreed. Notifications in general are a pretty weak part of the iOS ecosystem in general. It would be nice (for me) if they adopted something similar to how Android notifications worked but I'll just keep dreaming (and just use my Android phone).
