But there has to be competition...right?

I'm not saying that I know the laws about this stuff but it seems like it goes against everything that the free market is based on. Not that it matters to me since I don't own an Apple product and don't see myself every owning one...I just think its really crappy for the guys that do own them.

Unless its an elitist kind of thing? I know some people prefer to pay higher prices for some things with the thinking that it makes them better than people that can't afford them. I'm not saying that's what this is...just trying to figure it out in my puny little brain.

Nah. Certain items are covered by a patent such as the proprietary Apple Dock Connector but I believe, and I could be wrong, stuff like cell phone cases (or coverings for other electronics) are not covered. Excepting proprietary case designs of course.

So you can get an office license to make cases/covers for Apple products but you are under no obligations to do so.

Hes an "idiot fanboy" but you are now representing the Anti-Apple community very poorly with nasty and arrogant comments like that. Its like you all go on a treasure hunt to dig up some dirt on Apple, its all very biased and slanted...Like a political campaign.

I know that's not directed at me but not everyone who posts news that might be negative to Apple is a frothing maniacal fanboy.

I'm the OP. I own an iPhone 4. I bought 3 of them in fact. One for myself, one for the wifey and the wifey's sister asked me to get her one on my plan. I don't go out of my way to dig up dirt on Apple. I just thought the news would be interesting. I do think that it's either false or overblown. I'm skeptical of the news personally. But I'm just reporting it. I didn't make it up.

I'd rather know if there's an issue with a product I own or am interested in. I try to make as informed a buying decision as possible. I'm actually rather impartial. I call it as I see it. If I read a news item somewhere that I feel might be of interest, good or bad, I will post it here.

this thread is now about whether primates can benifit from prescription eyewear

Well, unless you're a silverback I think your eyesight is pretty good. And if you're a silverback, who in their right mind would dare call you blind? :p

Meh people hate on Engadget and I know they're more Apple biased but that doesn't stop me from loving their site and their fun to read articles.
