What does it matter to you what matters to me? Worship of a product or the company that makes it is never good, but none stand out more in the tech world than Apple and iPhone fanatics.

Wow. Double standards yet again. It's ok for you to complain about the fanboy attitude of others, but it's not ok for others to point out that their actions don't hurt you and its their money to spend as they wish. Diamonds are merely pieces of carbon and their prices are artificially inflated. Many people spend thousands, if not tens of thousands. Go complain about them and you'll get laughed out of every single room.

Apple took one route to profitability while MS, Google, and others took the other route. There's room for both, to be sure, but that isn't a pass for fanaticism.
Are you trying to imply that MS and Google are charitable organizations? I hope you're not serious here. And MS is a company who charges insane prices for some of their products such as Office which they have a near monopoly on. Just because they don't have the position to charge higher prices doesn't mean they don't want to. Every company in existence is out to make as much money as possible.

The "gated community" of Apple lends itself more toward blind acceptance and suspension of criticism than any other approach to business.
And how does this affect you? Again, people spend money on expensive stuff like diamonds or fancy cars like a Ferrari. I'm sure people who collect Ferrari's are fanatical about them. What does it matter to you?

I wouldn't say you're ignorant, but I would say you're apathetic to the alternatives.. which is the other part of what I said that you conveniently ignored.
No. That is only what you want to imply about me. I have looked at Android. It wasn't significantly better than the iPhone for my uses. I'm already tied into the iPhone because of the apps I already paid for. I don't want to pay for them again on a different device unless said different device is significantly better. It is also because of the specialized apps that I use, very niche products not available on Android, that prevents me from switching. The very same reason why I switched from a Mac to a PC nearly 15 years ago.

Of course, in your misguided and quest to brand anyone who likes the iPhone as a mindless sheep, you wouldn't even consider that someone who buys an iPhone is able to think for himself. Not that I need to justify my purchase of the iPhone for anyone but it just to show how your arguments are opinion based and lack any basis in facts. You're complaining about other people's opinions and biases by imposing your own opinions and biases on them. Anyone who is impartial can see the stupidity in that.

It's not really the phones as much it is everything else: apps, accessories, service. You're pretty much locked into Apple.
Are you any less locked in on a Atari 2600? Nintendo Entertainment System? Sega Master System? Nokia Symbian phone? Zune? Android? And yes, the Android is still a closed system. While more open than the iPhone, once you buy an Android app you can only use it on Android based systems. Assuming there are no Android emulators any time soon.

Anyone who paid significant $ for the N97 is ignorant and Nokia certainly capitalized on it, so yes, Nokia is another money-grubbing company set on extracting every last penny from the ignorant.
Ok. Another change in argument. First Apple is overpricing their devices. Now I show you how Apple priced their phones in the same high range that others like Nokia, and not just limited to Nokia, were charging for their phones. In other words, Apple was charging the same as others for high end products in the cell phone industry. Now you change it to read that anyone who buys these phones are ignorant. Why don't you go call Ferrari owners ignorant. Ferraris certainly don't add functionality over a Mustang or BMW but cost significantly more.

What's your point?
Aside from the fact that you're injecting opinions into an argument when trying to argue facts? Aside from the point your arguments are being poked full of holes and you've had to change arguments to try to keep from looking like someone who can't look at all sides of an issue and think on a higher level? Aside from the fact that you're coming off as what I call an anti-fanboy, someone who has nothing better to do but spout hate for a company or other object? Not much.

I don't excuse any fanboy behavior. I merely pointed out that Apple/iPhone fanboys still significantly outnumber Android fanboys.
Then go crusade against Android fanboys. That's what this is turning into anyways. A crusade against Apple and their fan/fanboys. I mean, who made you the leader of the crusade? Did you appoint yourself? Do you get some sort of satisfaction for crusading against Apple?

So you're saying your excuse for Android fanboys is that because there are less of them they get a pass?

Here... I think it's ready for you:

No thanks. You can keep it. You need it more than I do. Keep crying about what other people like or dislike. I'll just be buying and enjoying the various products (not limited to Apple) that I buy.

Pretty much done with this thread. You've shown your true colors and what little credibility you had in your first post has been thoroughly wiped out by others poking them full of holes. Your only rejoinder can be summed up as a crusade against Apple fanboys.

Reading zsdersw's threads is amusing. Primarily due to the fact that he thinks he's much more intelligent than he actually is. But he trolls well :)

I own an Android phone, will be getting an iPhone 4, and I own an iPod Touch & picked up a Zune HD today. I'm having inner-self fanboy wars inside my body right now.

LOL, that's the problem with fanboyism, if you get all hung up in brands and shit, you don't really think clearly or objectively.

All of these devices have their pros and cons.

Meh, I am getting the iPhone 4, 16GB, in white, and will use it with my Hackintosh and PowerBook. And if it encounters a problem, I will drive the hour to the Apple Store, hand them the phone, and walk out with a new one in 30 minutes (or less) much like my roommate has done.

And to the person that was asking about insurance, you can get a SquareTrade policy on it, $5/month, $50 deductible, transferrable to replacement phone if Apple replaces it.

Today I had my Zune HD & iPod, one in my right pocket and one in my left. With the exact same song qued up on both. I had different brands of earbuds (Ultimate Ears & Klipsch) in each ear. And I listened to the same song on both players at the same time. Then switched earbuds/players and listened to the same song again. It took me a long time to get the song on each to sync up exactly both times. But my conclusion is neither sounds any better than the other, they just sound a bit different. I'm a fanboy of cool shit, iPhones are cool shit, Zune HD's are pretty cool, I might even get a Zune Phone when they come out just so I can see for myself if it has any coolness to it.

i did the exact thing last weekend. i realized it all boiled down to the eq settings and the headphones used. when both had the eq set to "none" and a decent pair of headphones, they sounded the same. i also played a mp4 movie on both (shaun of the dead) to see how different the screens were, the itouch still looks good, but the zuneHD definitely has the color and brightness edge. they were about the same in the sun, both were difficult to see but manageable with a shadow to hide under.
