I wonder, how much of this stuff was in any phones 1.0 release?
I mean, WinMo is on version 6 I think, BlackBerry OS is on version 5 i think. No phone is using its original OS, they have all been updated. Even cheap free phones are using a greatly updated OS over what was available a few years ago.
So, I think that with Apple building the OS from the ground up a little bit of slack can be given to allow for it to take time to bring in features. I do not think that Apple has been sitting on these features, certainly not all of them (landscape typing probably).
I think it would have been splendiferous if Apple had all this and more in the 1.0 release, but some things take time.

Well that's hardly the point, is it? If you decide to jump into a market you need to at least try and have a comparable set of standard features. Sure we got a nice touch screen and accelerometer, but a fair few basics are just not there.

That is definitely true. I wonder if there are other historical examples of where a new guy showed up in an industry with a new product that did enough of what the other guy did, plus these 3 really cool things.
