How wonderful is it going to be? I just watched a video on it and it seems amazing..

It will cure cancer 🙂

In reality, it is bringing to the table a lot of the features that people have been clamoring for. They were not included in the 1.0 or 2.0 releases for whatever reason, possibly because they take time to make.

A co-worker is a developer and he lent me his development phone for a bit today to play with.

The new search capability is cool - although the single tap on the "home" button taking you to the search menu takes some getting used to. I think I'll use it a lot when I get 3.0 on my phone and get used to the behavior, but I think it's going to take some getting used to.

Cut-n-paste is implemented very cleanly. It works across everything in the phone - you can cut things from anywhere and paste them anywhere else.

Voice memos is simple and easy to use and works well. A nice addition, and something that I've occasionally wanted my iPhone to do, but not a big deal.

And that's about all that I noticed. His phone is one of the original ones, so MMS and bluetooth changes weren't available, and he didn't have a SIM in the phone, so the whole "push" stuff couldn't be tested by us either.

So far it looks ok. Nothing to get jump-up-and-down excited about, but it should solve a lot of peoples "why the heck didn't they include cutnpaste/MMS/A2DP in the phone. It's an iPhone, you think it would be able do these basic things" complaints.

Yeah, good point, gorcorps. There are already enough threads about this... but I played with 3.0 for an hour and this was the thread that caught my eye when I came back to my favorite forum to post my thoughts.

I suppose I could have merged them... or locked this as a duplicate. I often forget that I'm a moderator except when I see spam. Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep it in mind for the future.

Seriously...all of this stuff should have been in the 1.0 release 😛

I wonder, how much of this stuff was in any phones 1.0 release?

I mean, WinMo is on version 6 I think, BlackBerry OS is on version 5 i think. No phone is using its original OS, they have all been updated. Even cheap free phones are using a greatly updated OS over what was available a few years ago.

So, I think that with Apple building the OS from the ground up a little bit of slack can be given to allow for it to take time to bring in features. I do not think that Apple has been sitting on these features, certainly not all of them (landscape typing probably).

I think it would have been splendiferous if Apple had all this and more in the 1.0 release, but some things take time.

Well that's hardly the point, is it? If you decide to jump into a market you need to at least try and have a comparable set of standard features. Sure we got a nice touch screen and accelerometer, but a fair few basics are just not there.

That is definitely true. I wonder if there are other historical examples of where a new guy showed up in an industry with a new product that did enough of what the other guy did, plus these 3 really cool things.

What is android missing? I haven't looked into it too much.
