iPads everywhere...

Wandered into my hospital;'s waiting room yesterday, usually has a mix of people on the phone, browsing on smartphones, etc...

3 people out of about 30 were using iPads, all gen II.

Are any of you seeing iPads out in the wild or seeing them more frequently?
 
Nope. I see everyone with smartphone browsing or texting. I see people reading Kindle here and there. I think lot of people have ipads but just don't carry it around.
 
Never seen anyone with a Tab. But Tab was a total failure and probably had actual sell rate of low six figures in the US. 80% are probably sitting in warehouses rotting away. Serves the greedy parties right.
 
Took the subway the other day and saw someone with their iPad in the open, playing tiny wings.

I don't know why, but I thought that was douchey. Dunno why.
 
I work in IT at a large hospital, so Im starting to see some up there. Physicians have banded together and requested a couple of vendor apps be supported at the hospital, so thats in the works and my understanding is between 150 and 200 iPads are on order and will be rolled out to various departments once the app testing is done.
 
Lol you should see our meetings now instead of people checking email on iPhone everyone is on their iPad. All execs at my company have company issued ipads.
 
I do contract work at airports (mainly ORD) so I see LOTS of gadgets. I like to walk around the concourses and check out what people are using.

- I see TONS of iPads. Mostly 1st gen, although maybe 20% are iPad 2. I've seen one Galaxy Tab and one Xoom so far. I see lots of Blackberry Playbooks. . . at the display kiosks 🙂 Haven't seen one in the wild so far.

- The 3rd generation Kindle is about equally as plentiful as the iPad. I haven't seen a 1st gen Kindle since the 3rd gen came out (hard to tell the 2nd and 3rd gen apart at a glance). I see a Nook now and again, but nowhere near as often as the Kindle.

- iPhone is definitely the most common smartphone among travelers by a long shot. I'd say about 50% are the iPhone 4, the rest are earlier versions (hard to tell them apart at a glance). Next most popular are the various Blackberries (I don't really follow the BB market). Next is definitely the Evo 4G, followed by the O.G. Droid, then by the Droid X & various Galaxy S. I still see a handful of Palm Pres & Touch Pro 2s, and I've seen a few WP7 devices so far (Focus and a few HD7s). Still haven't seen a single Nokia smartphone 🙂
 
ive seen 1 in the wild, in the airport in Atlanta

ive seen hundreds of kindles and nooks and more xooms then ipads and its mostly old people using them

I definitely agree with the airport comments. I see TONS of iPads everytime I am flying. Probably 5 - 10 in each flight. Also agree with the iPhone. It is by far the most popular phone I see everytime I am at the airport. Probably see 5 - 10 iPhones for every droid in the airport.

Never seen a tab, xoom or any other tablet out in the wild. I have seen a good amount of kindles, probably 2nd to the amount of iPads ive seen.

I do see a lot of droid phones when I am out and about in the city, but when I am at the airport, the Apple brand dominates completely.

Same here. I wonder if it's seen as a status symbol among the business crowd. It's not just iPads and iPhones, I also see a ton of travelers with the latest-gen MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.

I see middle aged women with nook colors all the time.

Where I work they have in total probably ~ 500 ipads and I sure that number will only be growing. All of them are gen1 to my knowledge though.

Whats funny is some people at work wanted to get some android tablets to try but were told no, only ipads... from the same person who said to let everyone but what they want.
 
The only reason I'm getting a Tab is that it's $165. I suspect that whatever actual sales Samsung got of them were mostly in Korea, with its protectionists tariffs & all.

When I traveled I had two older women (one who sat next to me on a plane, one who specifically walked over while waiting for a plane) ask me about my Nook Color. Both stated that they were planning to get one to read with. Both gave me a look of surprise when I stated that "yeah mine was an ereader but I hacked it into a tablet" followed by a cube effect on Launcher Pro plus me pulling up Angry Birds Rio. The one that sat next to me asked how hard it was to hack, to which I responded- "not that hard, but I hack stuff all the time."

On another flight an older gentleman I sat next to asked to see my Nook Color, then after a brief glance complained that "the screen was reflective unlike his regular Nook." He asked "what is the point of that?" I responded "it is a way for me to get a cheap and decent Android tablet" to which he scoffed "oh, I have my iPad for that." His teenage son's ears perked up when I said cheap tablet, daddy must have not been spreading around the iPad love.

I see more Kindles than I see iPads. I just flew a couple weeks weeks ago and a TON of people had Kindles, which was pretty surprising - I would have thought more people would have wanted tablets, but mostly just Kindles. Also, most of the user base was older, I'd say 40+.

I've started to see a lot of iPads in the workplace (aerospace manufacturing), especially thanks to Citrix. If Apple opened up Bluetooth mouse support (or even USB!), it'd be all over for laptops from large corporations that work on high-security type of stuff - you give the user an iPad with an all-day battery life, HDMI out (with DVI and VGA adapters) and a Bluetooth mouse & keyboard, and they can dock in at any location or just use it on the fly anywhere.

I've seen a few iPads in public, but I don't recall ever seen any other tablets in the wild. Lots of Android-based phones though, and lots of iPhones. I rarely see Blackberries outside of the workplace anymore, either.

How are you liking the Transformer so far? I've been interested in that one, plus the HTC Flyer with the pen input.

i've moved to an MIS department and blackberries are now a rare sight, with iPhones/iPads being very normal.

only a few android phones, and definitely noone that talks about android like ATOT'ers.

I'm really liking the TF, the weather is heating up now and it's a heck of a lot cooler to curl up with my tablet on the sofa than my laptop. It's also excellent for relaxing on my porch. It's performance has been quite solid and I'm still really glad I bought it.

What I've found funny so far is that many of the principals where I work are going Android for their phones, but have Ipads from the district for work use.
